NorthernRyland
Car accidents are an act of God in Thailand. Nothing can be done so we must brace for impact.
Popular Post KhunBENQ
"17 vinyl banners". This should really do the job. And to avoid sleepers at the wheel I suggest free distribution of these little stay awake pills? Proven for "professional" drivers. Where is police at such meetings? How about 24/7 checkpoint, DUI and speed checks etc. Just fantasizing. 1
Popular Post Gottfrid
Yeah, now we really have the black cap-no-can-see-reality on again. Foreigners and tourists stands for a very small percentage of all the traffic accidents in Thailand. Anyway, nice to see that they all live up to their reputation. To never admit that they are the root to something wrong.
Popular Post beechbum
"The local authorities are to install these in an area where local people and car users can easily see from the road"... Awesome and amazing idea the banners, but then to decide to install them where people can see them...this guy's going places! Benmart
Banners, pleas, warnings, plastic cop statues, threats. Worthless and proven by the roadway carnage across the country. These people have no clue what proactive, mobile traffic enforcement is all about.

Tropposurfer
Highlights the reasoning why I ride my lovely Vespa very short, and only very local distances now (to the nearby beach, along almost deserted quiet road at very early morning times). The road toll as as we all know is, horrendous! A huge campaign of driver ed. plus road improvement, speed curtailment, radar, cameras, and stiff penalties will (maybe?) curtail such a catastrophic annual road toll over time and generational change/education (maybe not?!?). As for the insane falang tourist riding behaviour that is another topic altogether. I'm gunna trade my bella Italia wasp in for a 3 wheeler job so I have more stability on the terrible Phuket roads. I learnt the hard and painful way that biking riding in Thailand eventually ends in lots of gravel rash and hospital visits (if you're as lucky as I have been in my few falls). Anything other than the few KM'S to the beach at Naithon I use the car.

Dumbfounded
The headline sounds like it's the Phuket Car Carnage Festival and they will start removing the man hole covers and digging extra ditches on the road to increase the stats. Could be a winner
Partenavia
I doubt whether real tourists will jump through all the hoops to get here, so the roads should be OK for a while yet.
