Daily News reported on claims made online from disgruntled patients at a southern Thailand Covid field hospital that their meals were sub-standard, inedible and not nutritious.

Pictures of the watery fare were posted with complaints that patients were just given a bit of veg and some thin soup with "a few indescribable bits of some dead animal".

Ram Wasuthanapinyo of the consumer protection authority led the investigation and found that Friday's meal was quite all right.

It was seafood fried rice, soup and an apple. The main dish contained some prawns and squid.

The media reported that the budget for the meals was three a day at the cost of 100 baht per person.

They quoted a hospital director who has responsibility for the field hospital as saying that the pictures posted online looked like they had been taken AFTER the meal was half-consumed.

They also reported that the meal budget was 500,000 baht for just 10 days.

This reminds me of Oliver Twist.

"Please Sir, can I have some more"

"More!! More!!!!!!"

They are lucky they weren't served gruel.

As if anything else was going to happen.

On the whole Thai’s are more compassionate towards the Soi dogs than they are to strangers - those with Covid are treated as if they are subhuman, these conditions should not be tolerated or permitted.

What are you talking about? Or should I say, what are you dribbling about?

Wonder how many of these disgruntled patients are currently languishing in the hospital wing of the local equivalent of the Bangkok Hilton as a result of criminal defamation charges having been laid against them by the field hospital (which appears to have been named in the Daily News link). I look forward to reading a further Daily News report as to how they rate the meals being served up at that particular penal institution in comparison to those they received at the field hospital!????

Are they referring to the same meal???  For starters (excuse pun) the complaint meal clearly shows some kind of green leaves with stems, the "all right" meal has sliced cucumber!!

Contained in expanded polystyrene (EPS) foam packaging.

One time use and buried in the ground somewhere.

Nice touch.

Looks like a lot of costs have been saved for some reason on these Meals

I believe him, but that doesn't guarantee that All the money was Used for the meals.   Some may have been Used somewhere else

Or the Old woman who lived in a shoe,

she had so many children, she didn't know what to do,

She gave them some broth, without any bread

Whipped them soundly, and sent them to bed.

With corruption so rife here, spending 500k doesn't guarantee quality meals! Look at all the roads & buildings which were built with quality (higher priced) materials. In cases like this, a good chunk of the money goes 'elsewhere' instead of actually being spent on what it was meant for.

Reality is:

- Budget 500,000Baht

- Senior officer gets his/her 'automatic' cut 20 to 30%

- E.g. 500,000Baht minus 100,000Baht (at 20% cut) = 400,000Baht)

- Transport fees (overcharged but nobody says anything)

- Extra wages cost for extra staff ?

- Apples near expiry date, many rotten and cannot be eaten

- Etc....

Bottom line Meal quality and quantity less than dismal.

Sad.

Wasn't it the same in the rather expensive UK quarantine hotels?

Hospitals have traditionally served up awful food..... now they have an even larger captive customer base and someone, somewhere will cheat and cut corners to line their pockets. With the prices of vegetables at the markets these days not only will they buy less but I would expect a few carrots hidden in various places by those prepping and cooking!

And do we believe for a minute he was not given a special meal, nothing like what the patients received earlier in the week!
