They picked her up from BKK and took her to the hotel - Amber hotel pattaya. She's going to Rayong so this was good. 5000 BHT for a nice room, papers of AQ and 1 meal. It worked out pretty good. She had the Thai Pass which I did back here in the US. Got approval in less than 48 hours.

Why spending 24 hrs in a fleabag hotel can be good,as one comment here says,is beyond me.I was guarded and escorted, locked up and warned like a drug dealer. The hotel provided food that I would not throw to the dogs. The room service menu was in Thai, perfect if you wish to order as a foreign prisoner. The PCR sample itself was taken by a sadistic nurse who stuck that skewer inside my nose so hard that I screamed in pain.Reception told me the results will be in early, but they want you to stay till the morning.Lest you earn your freedom early!! Why the powers that be have an interest in keeping you locked up is a mystery.Hotel name better kept quiet.Obviously friends and family back home will learn about this treatment.Meanwhile, the TAT continues its favorite sport: counting the chickens before they hatch.Thailand still does not understand us.The Covid measures do not mean we came here to spread the disease.A more civilized approach, please. If you want the 18m visitors to come.

Hardly a "fleabag" hotel. the OP's wofe stayed in a 4 star hotel and paid for a nice room - 5,000 baht.

Why anyone would opt to do the 24 hour quarantine in a "fleabag" hotel (or any hotel less than 3-4 stars) is a mystery to me.  500-1,000 baht more would make a huge difference in food quality and overall expereinec.

All AQ hotels are multistars. That doesnt mean much, if only staying for a few hours, as their promise only several hours for covid test results.
In my case it was outright lie. I have chosen them over many other hotels some 800b cheaper, but which had some 12+ results.
Also 4* doesnt mean how good their service and attitude is.
As per admission by a receptionist results came over 2h before i called them. They simply forgot to call me, claiming they are very busy.
Or have some sinister purpose - starving guests ordering food and drink from their overpriced restaurant.
Breakfast suppose to be prepared and served immediately early morning, around 7am, that is some 12 h after checking in. But they do serve it at 10:30, when it's already cold and toast is dried. They keep it in the fridge for several hours, some 4h in my case.
they never say sorry for any mistakes. Simply, they are rude simpletons, no client oriented. Very typical to times, when they had a booming business before covid. Simply they cant learn new attitude, especially that management are working from homes and staff is not properly supervised
