BANGKOK (NNT) - Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said he never wanted to cling onto power until the government’s 20-year-national strategy bears fruit.

Speaking at a forum commissioned by the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) yesterday, the Prime Minister said in response to criticism that he came up with the 20-year-national strategy in hopes to stay in power through to the end.

The premier said critics attempted to mislead the objectives of the national strategy by distorting that he wants to cling to the power, clarifying that the strategy is designed to cover all aspects of the country’s national development and is for the sake of the country’s future.

Gen Prayut added that the national strategy incorporates measures that can address all aspects of national problems that remain unsolved including poverty, injustice, and inequality.

The strategy covers enhancing national security; strengthening competitiveness; developing and empowering human capital; broadening opportunities to improve social equality; rebalancing and adjusting state administration; and creating economic growth in an environmentally friendly way. The government hopes the 20-year strategy will give Thailand a set of goals to achieve in an uninterrupted fashion.

The strategy also paves the way for future governments to fine-tune developmental policies, and ensure their budgets are legally aligned with them.

Such an egostitical *ss with a big mouth.

Where's the 20 yr plan for the Army?  All this coming from the person who through out an elected gov just so he can impose his will (and the BKK elite's will).
He can order people around and write what "should" be done, but can't even fix the lottery ticket problem that he promised to fix!

It sounds like a joke but it isn't. The strategic plan is inscribed in the law and, as the national strategic committee, is one of the instruments allowing to bypass or oust an elected government which would not be of the right colour.

Yeah, just like you said there wouldn't be a coup and you wouldn't be PM.

There are only so many lies you can tell before nobody believes you any more. That point was reached about 5 years ago.

This man had said many times that he did not want to be PM and he still is. In the past years since he is PM what has he achieved?? still flooding, more povertry, less freedom, and a destroyed tourism industry, more criminality, and more.... and he want stay in charge???? Strange for someone who said he doesnot want the job

Apparently, the purpose of the 20 year strategy is to accomplish as little as possible while making yourself and your cronies as rich as possible. If that's the case, it's succeeding admirably.

This strategy is so vague and 'general' that any government in the world could subscribe to it.

These problems have worsened during the first few years of the Government's tenure.  In fact I'd say the only way these particular problems might improve is with a new, progressive Government that tears up Prayut's 20 year strategy!

Perhaps he meant 20 years ago....

????????

You forgot more corruption.

Does Prayut have a son/daughter... you know how things tend to go in generations here.

It's called the Dunning Kruger effect. Common trait among his type.

Very sad for Thai people who are not in his circle, and very sad for tourism. The world is still watching.

Govt policy is now nothing more than his whim at any given hour/minute.

Zero leadership or organizational abilities.

So he's now been in power over 7yrs, and things are much worse !

Scary isn't it?

Oh dear...

We all appreciate a good fantasy, as we all continue to imbibe in such existences - our fantasies or theirs, it matters not.

It's all good.
