Business operators rejoice after alcohol sales and drinks are allowed in qualified restaurants in Pattaya, what is the next step?

Business operators have rejoiced in Pattaya after alcohol sales and drinks were finally allowed in qualified restaurants yesterday, after an 8-month ban/prohibition due to Covid-19 regulations in Chonburi.

 

The Chonburi Governor released new orders last night through their Public Relations Facebook page yesterday allowing (December 4th) alcohol sales and drinks which are now allowed in the Chonburi ‘Blue Zone’ areas including Pattaya, Koh Larn, Sattahip, and Banglamung.

 

The orders came only a few hours after a rally on Walking Street by a large group of business owners and tourist associations, although it was not immediately clear if the two were directly connected.

 

Business owners had been putting increasing pressure on the government to lift the ban for over a month.

 

Last night many restaurants, cafés, and buffet restaurants reopened or allowed the sales of alcohol in Pattaya. Officially, the order only allows SHA (Safety and Health Administration) Plus venues to sell alcohol, which requires over 70 percent of staff to be vaccinated and going through a certification process, meeting many standards, with the Department of Public Health.

The system for getting a SHA certificate in Pattaya is not clear.

Lol, yeah!  Only SHA plus can open.  Right!  No bars open, right!  Give an inch they take a mile.  Just open already,  not many have the SHA plus and they open anyway, so why not just do away with the standard.   But then again they have a new police leader in Pattaya, maybe he woth Look the other way.

Surely it should be 100% of the staff vaccinated. Touching your glasses, plates eating utensils and cash that could spread the covid around,

I believe you can drink alcohol with out ordering food all the premises require is a restaurant licence and be SHA+ approved.

While the relaxation of this restriction is welcomed, it does make you wonder what all these "restaurants" primary business actually is?

Food or drink.

They've been allowed to open and sell food for months.

Only for two months in Pattaya. They have not been selling booze. Their primary business is food and always has been.

There is no mention in the legal orders for opening about requiring food purchases with a drink, although this rule could vary from venue to venue and direction from local authorities.

I understand the lust for a cool beer or some wine, but still I find it a sad state of the world when people don't go dining, because they can't have alcohol. Many years ago I was in Kuwait with some collegues. One of them knew a fabulous restaurant. But you should have heard the protests to eat there, when at arriving in the restaurant we noticed that alcohol was according islamic law prohibited.

But in spite of some protests we ate there and the food was delicious. 

Of course, after diner some of my collegues thought it necessary to go to a bar in order to get their quotum on alcohol. Poor souls.

Buy bottle of wine wholesale for Bt300.00 sell by the glass at Bt150.00.

 

Its all about making profits.

 

Many people (myself included) won't go out to dinner if I cannot have a beer or wine with the meal.

Happy for the restaurants. At least the few that can manage to jump over the never ending hoops and nonsense.

 

Beer does not cause Covid. Neither does wine. Idiotic leaders, with highly selective shutdowns, who allow cronies to operate businesses that are super spreaders does increase the rate of infection. But, prohibiting acholol sales does sabotage an industry and contribute to the continued destruction of the nation's economy. 
 
Nobody has ever defined the danger of alcohol intelligible, but as it related to Covid. I can understand crowded bars, and clubs, where you have to shout to be heard, and in the process you release alot of spittle. But a restaurant? Why? It only appears to be an additional hardship for hundreds of thousands who are only trying to make a living, and patrons who are only trying to let off a little steam and enjoy some much needed recreation.
