seriously though if Omicron really is mild and a way out of the pandemic to endemic then surely once they know the death rate they should just open the planet and be done with it. Isolating the mildly

Sorry , but the best thing for the planet would be a high transmission rate and high mortality .

But not while on their plane? Or in the airport?

The story?  Is there a double standard based on the story which isn't surprising since I've heard it before.  Thais arrived Nov 24th, UNVACCINATED  yet all these constant talk of of people having to apply for a C.O.E. / Thailand Pass / Sandbox / Move on....   and all the requirements that comes with it.

And you know what, the Thais probably come in without getting any visas, or having to do the 90 day reporting either, the double standard!

As you said....."If".....and "when"....

At present nobody knows for sure...????

What I want to know is why were two unvaccinated Thai women doing in Nigeria in the first place, and how did they re enter Thailand without being vaccinated?

Not everyone in Thailand has been vaccinated and you do not have to be vaccinated to enter Thailand.

  1. Non-Vaccinated under Quarantine Program
Non-vaccinated or partially vaccinated travelers are still allowed to travel to Thailand. They must undergo a mandatory quarantine of 10 nights in an accredited ASQ or AQ quarantine hotel before they will be allowed to travel to other parts of Thailand.

So two Thai women arrived on Nov 24.

An American arrived on Nov. 29.

Sure testing was done, apparently at different times but I think thailand gets the gold and the silver, with the U.S. chap getting the bronze medal?

Or maybe they measure time differently here?

Just wondering here about the two unvaccinated  Thai women, do we know when they left Thailand, unvaccinated, and flew to where etc etc or were they already overseas before January February 2020.

If they left after March 2020 unvaccinated how did they achieve this given the requirements for testing etc and how many others with "Exemptions" have done the same thing.  So long as Thai people receive special treatment with their travel then the potential for Thailand to continue to be a Hot spot exists.

Thanks, go treat yourself to a soapy before they are all gone. And the guy how poop pooped the traveler for not wearing a mask? I guess the Thais who become US citizens sure assimilate fast.

Because you don't trust science or doctors, unless you are sick, then you run to the hospital.

Stop spreading misinformation.  The topic is Omicron and so far, no deaths have been reported.

South Africa upbeat as battle of the Covid mutations rages: Omicron deaths still zero despite new coronavirus variant spreading twice as fast as deadly Delta

Its probable, but not confirmed, this pandemic may shrivel due to the dangerous highly contagious ugly Little O

Planet insanity

Where the well are literally locked down and the contagious are free to roam. When you put it that way it sounds like a conspiracy of some sort doesn't it?

If you actually took the time to read this piece there is absolutely NO mention of Omicron killing anybody. Just that SA is suffering more excess deaths during an  Omicron wave, whilst delta presumably is still active. Fails to mention what the excess death variants are.

It also fails to make any mention of the low vaccine rates in SA and who is dying - if any of Omicron - after vaccine.

Just more scare mongering about Omicron with no evidence of ANY deaths from it

It’s interesting that excess deaths are immediately showing up just after a big vaccination push too.

Omicron is accounting for 80% of new sequenced cases so while there maybe some still dying from Delta and I think you can make a logical assumption that they are also dying from Omicron

Vaccinations only started going up slightly in SA a few days after the Omicron announcement, before that they were in a steady decline since Sept

But that’s not what the experts are saying.  Including the WHO.

Of course, the forum experts would like to have us believe otherwise.

Excess deaths only started going up at a similar time.

And for those who say "but not a single person died from Omicron". Well, that's not quite correct: the "it's mild" Tshwane report found that of 166 Covid-positive patients admitted to this 1 hospital in the last 2 weeks, 9 died of Covid & 5 out of 33 admissions aged over 60 died.

The experts are saying that it is too early to know much about Omicron.

your explanation for the jump in excess mortality in SA, that the excess deaths are due to vaccination, is ridiculous. It is possible that for some reason, people are dying from Delta in greater numbers, but it is also possible that there are undiagnosed deaths from Omicron. Specifically, people who fall ill, are never hospitalized, die at home, and are not yet counted as Omicron victims.

Your hypothetical scenarios are every bit as ridiculous.  I’m going with what the experts in SA seem to be saying.  So far…no deaths.  Appears to be mild.  Nothing to panic about.

You really should read the articles that you post.

1.  There is nothing in that article that says which variant people have died from and there is nothing stated that leads to your “logical conclusion”.

2.  There are many statements in your linked article that can logically lead us to believe that it is in fact much milder.  Such as…

“In summary, the first impression on examination of the 166 patients admitted since the Omicron variant made an appearance, together with the snapshot of the clinical profile of 42 patients currently in the COVID wards at the SBAH/TDH complex, is that the majority of hospital admissions are for diagnoses unrelated to COVID-19”

“There were only 2 patients in the COVID ICU in the last 14 days, neither of whom had a primary diagnosis of COVID pneumonia. Sixty-three patients were admitted to high care, but our anecdotal information is that the majority of high care admissions were for a diagnosis other than COVID.“

“A significant early finding in this analysis is the much shorter average length of stay of 2.8 days for SARS-CoV-2 positive patients admitted to the COVID wards over the last two weeks compared to an average length of stay of 8.5 days for the past 18 months.“

Maybe you should read the twitter thread that goes through the article and its points. Its linked in my post. Its by a real expert not a forum expert.
