BKK Joe
Dear, I am asking this for a friend. He is Japanese and currently on a 30days stay. Visa exempt they call this I believe. He is married with his Thai wife in Japan. Now he would like to get a NON O (valid for a year) while being in Thailand. I am not sure if this is possible as I went to the Thai consulate in HCMC Vietnam to get a multiple entry NON O. I told him about the seasoning of 2 month 400k B. Get married in an amphur (Bangkok, Bang Rak e.g.)? Or only register the marriage in Japan, in Thailand? Tabien baan copies from the wife. Map house. So is it possible to do the NON O in Thailand or should he go to a close by country to get a NON O single entree and then come back to Thailand? Please let me know what else he misses out on. Thanks a lot for you help. kind regards, Joe
Popular Post ubonjoe
He can apply for a non-o visa at immigration and then apply for a extension of stay based upon marriage to a Thai. To apply for the non-o visa the 40101k baht only has to be in a bank on the day of he applies for the non-o visa and then for 2 months when applying for the one year extension of stay during the last 30 day of the 90 day stay the non-o visa allows. If married in Japan he needs to register his foreign marriage at a Amphoe to get a Kor Ror 22 marriage registry that immigration requires to apply for the visa and the extension. To do the registration he will need to have his marriage certificate legalized by an authority in Japan or at the embassy in Bangkok if they do it. Then the marriage certificate has to be translated to Thai and certified by the Department of Consular Affairs of the MFA in Bangkok. There are topics about the registration in the Marriage and divorce forum. He could apply for a 60 day extension to visit his wife using the marriage certificate from Japan to get the legalization done after applying for the normal 30 day extension of his visa exempt entry.
DrJack54
OP, is your friend 50+ years of age? If yes suggest he look at non O with extensions based on retirement.
skatewash
Just to be clear: the Thai wife would need to be present when the husband applied for the marriage extension at the immigration office.
sometimewoodworker
Further to @ubonjoe s information he must have at least 15 days remaining on his permission to stay when he applies for his Non-O and the amount on deposit needs to be 400k on the date of application.
