The Israeli man who fled a Sukhumvit Road hotel before waiting for a Covid-19 test result and subsequently tested positive for the Omicron variant has been flown back to Bangkok.

Ohad B. was arrested at a restaurant at Bang Rak beach in Bo Phut on the holiday island of Koh Samui in the south of Thailand.

Immigration and tourist police took him into custody from a field hospital and they flew to Bangkok on Bangkok Airways flight PG 172 yesterday evening, reported Daily News

The suspect had tested negative on his three latest tests.

He now faces charges in Thong Lo district of the Thai capital after an arrest warrant was issued for breaking Article 9 of the emergency decree.

I rather think he's going there to face the music for whatever "charges" they want to press.

I doubt they are sending him to Jail. Thailand is visited by lot of Israelis and since Israelis usually visit places they can trust , it would hurt Thailand's Image. He would be fined and sent back home , possibly blacklisted. Plus his actions were stupid and idiotic, not sure I would term them criminal.

Would you sleep with a girl who has Chlamydia if she tells you “oh don’t worry, I’ll take some antibiotics next week and test negative”?

Hint: A criminal action can be stupid and idiotic and a stupid and idiotic action can be criminal.

If you take emotions out of it, His iditotic act isnt worth for Thailand govt to hurt its image amongst countries which are still friendly to it. Also Israleis are known to take care of their own. I hear you that you think he should be punished so we shall see!

It's not about the test, it's about that he fled the quarantine hotel before the test arrived, and thereby broke the rules in a pandemic emergency decree, which is a serious crime in any country.

Potentially this is the major point of contention.... It is reported that he ‘escaped’ quarantine.

Yet elsewhere it is reported that he completed 24 hrs and then walked out of the hotel with his baggage at 2pm the following afternoon, no one stopped him.

Did he ‘flee’ quarantine or was he told he could leave and now there is a great deal of ‘face saving’ going on ????

Was there a miss communication ??? we only have the ’Thai side’ of the story - it would be interesting to know whether it was this guys intention to flee or if he was just naively stupid.

It was reported several times that he left without his passport, and had trouble checking into other hotels as a result.

If true then certainly not a normal check-out.

Don't believe he left without his passport, simply as he would need it to fly out at some point. Perhaps he just gambled on the test being negative (given the time elapsed), in which case, probably no further action would ever have been taken.

Which has nothing to do with putting dozens or hundreds of people at risk of infecting them.

If he was negative then how did he risk other people ?  Many would conclude the first test was faulty by design or implementation. There has got to be some false positives and so far none of those have been publicized.

So what is it than? tested positive and than tested negative in 3 separate tests? like a dog with a bone they wouldn't let go, let's make an example out of him to deter others from doing the same is what the police is all about now, pity, this is not how the Thai police should act, they're better than that, this is pure cruelty, let the man go, i'm sure he and many others got the message...

He is a self important fool who thought he was above the law. Such people would see any 'mercy' as encouragement to continue to break the law in future since there would be no penalty. He should be prosecuted with full force of the law to send a message to prevent other idiots like him taking the risk.

The nice thing about laws is that they are completely unemotional. In fact, that’s the purpose of having laws: so that they apply regardless of individual feelings.

Please leave the emotions out of it and let’s just follow the law.
