Anutin admits some foreign tourists will bring in Omicron - but says its no worse than other variants

I never liked him but at least this time he admits that omricon is no worse, and obviously some of the 20K would bring it in. And if it is no worse, then continue test and go again too.

I agree. He’s said plenty of dumb stuff in the past, but give him credit this time for saying something sensible. Omicron is already established in Thailand so letting in a few thousand fully vaccinated and tested foreigners a day is not going to substantially worsen the problem.

Also, data from South Africa, the UK, and Denmark seems to be showing it is much milder than Other variants which is probably what he is referring to when he says it’s “no worse”.

The main focus should be getting everyone vaccinated, not closing the borders yet again.

1. Omicron is already transmitted locally

2. Worrying about vaccinated and tested tourists "sneaking" the virus in when literally 100s a day "sneaking in" (with active local help) unchecked from neighbor countries is hypocrisy.

The latest outbreak in Kalasin was brought in by a THAI couple returning from Belgium.

Someone should really gag this incompetent racist clown.

The controversial figure admitted that there would be some Omicron cases that would "sneak in" among the 200,000 foreign tourists on the Test and Go program.

Not to mention some natives returning...

This guy is unbelievable..

And he wants to be the next PM... he needs to learn some diplomacy.

'Anutin admits some foreign tourists will bring in Omicron - but says its no worse than other variants' - he went on to say, 'What's all the fuss about this Covid thing. I've made my pile from the Chinese vaccine.  Open up the floodgates.'

Anutin Anutin “anyone” can bring Omicron in to Thailand! Even Thais overseas! You are a F…. Idiot!

It's a reality, other than China or North Korea, no one can close themselves completely. I think focus should be to educate people about how to live with. Caution, Cure and Courage.

Thailand and education... need a better plan than that.

its just the flu.

No, it is not just the flu. It is caused by a completely different virus which attacks the body in a different way than the flu virus. It has clearly been more deadly than the flu in the earlier stages of the pandemic. A flu vaccine will not protect you from Covid-19. Your statement is nonsense.

That being said, the increasingly dominant Omicron variant seems to be causing symptoms a lot like the common cold so it may be time to finally stop being afraid of it and start trying to live our lives a bit more freely again.

After new year an other language, i can understand him he don't want loose the face, vaccines are not so performant and boosters we don't know yet.

Lickin' their chops over the prospect of foreign tourists going into expensive hospital quarantine.

The vast majority of Omicron cases will 'get in' the same way Delta did.

It will walk over the border.

Anutin hasn't got far enough in saying 'it's no worse than any other variant'...he should've said it's 'like a two day cold' which it is (i've had it btw).

Even the ENGLISH govt have realised this...and made the Scottish and Welsh Govts look pansified and daft.

Pretty sure the numbers of omicron infected people coming in by air will be low per head count than the populace outside the glass airport doors - if only they bothered tested. And as they will be lower there is little point in stopping flights and incoming people.

If Anustin continue this idiot policy to put all infected one's in hospital. Then Anustin hurry up to make more space there, coz soon you have 30k case /day! They not all fit in your palace!

With intelligence of that magnitude why isn't he PM already.

The tourist are more likely to catch Omicron in Thailand now.  So, what is the need for entry restrictions?

Such infection in those cases resulted in mild, quickly treatable infections.

Interesting, I didn't know the infected were treated, they just got better on their own after a day or so. Maybe some aspirin for treating Omicron effects?

You should know by now that Thai people aren't satisfied with a hospital visit unless they're taking home 4-5 different drugs.

????????????????

Only one solution....Put tourist in monkey cages for 14 days quarantine And charge them plenty of $$$......Throw the tourist a few bananas a day for food......

welcome the tourists .. !!! Thailand needs them ???     wealth before health !! again

…nationalistic douche. Omicron is already in Thailand, it’s already everywhere.

Bless him, the major outbreak in Kalasin was by two returning Thais.

Yeah, but that's "good covid" and cannot be helped.  No doubt the innocent Thai victims who brought the virus there caught it from a foreigner and it therefore wasn't their fault.  However, if dirty foreigners bring evil "bad covid" into Thailand, that's malicious and likely intentional.

That's just not true. It may well be in a few weeks.

Or perhaps the natural tendency of asian cultures to be more compliant with mask wearing and take threats to health more seriously will just keep Thailand safer generally.

But, what happens when there is omicron plus, or whatever horrible name they give the next mutation?

Until the world knows more, trying to find some middle ground between caution and economic suicide seems to be the only reasonable way to hedge bets.

Should read:

The future PM and Golden Boy admitted that there would be some Omicron cases that would "sneak in" among the 200,000 dirty foreign tourists on the Test and Go program.

This rewrite might actually match his ego and tell the truth about how he feels about us.
