This is going to hurt had me hooked from the off and I binge watched this brilliant series in one day, like a good book I just couldn't put it down! it's funny, it's sad and having been written by a doctor, it's pretty real as well. It's on the BBC iplayer.

Yeah, 100 minutes lost.

 

The underlying series, Wu Assassins, was pretty good I thought, and I like Iko Uwais, and the Bangkok angle was interesting - but that yellow filter, ugh. Nice to see Bangkok/thailand portrayed as something other than a cesspool. And a few of the fight scenes were well photographed.

It exposes the underbelly of immigrant communities crime and suffering, drugs, prostitution, grooming, forced marriages etc. Made with BFI and arts Council money this is a tense, tough  unusual thriller set in  North England. Some scenes lit by torchlight to the sound of dramatic live music and drums   resonate with the hysteria of 'Harush Gamea'..A disturbing honest  film...

The reviews seem to bear no relevance to the actual production. I suspect the funding bodies Bradford BFI and arts councils might have frowned on it story of immigrant life.

Trigger Point, from the ITV Mercurio (LOD) production stable featuring such stalwarts as Vicky McClure is the story of a London Bomb Squad, many of whom are drawn from the military and have Afghanistan experience. Its a 6 part series. It fails miserably. It's ludicrous. Although melodramatic it lacks drama, substance or narrative credibility. The casting is absurd. One can only wonder if it was as embarrassing to work on this production as it is to watch it. One newspaper labelled it 'Bomby McBombface.' I think Wokey Mc.Wokeface might be more appropriate...Watch this series and draw your own conclusions as to whether ideologicaly driven casting imbues a production with realism or patronising absurdity. The Informer, a great TV series about a young muslim man recruited by the British Securuty Services was far better as was The Bodyguard.

I've finally finished binge watching Vera, an English crime drama set in NE England, which has 11 Seasons comprising 46x90 minute episodes. The acting was pretty good and so were the plots. I thought it easily deserved its IMDB rating of 8.0, not that I set great store by IMDB recommendations. The series was particularly interesting to me (being from NE England) as I recognised lots of the locations and have been to a few of the pubs depicted in the shows. For anyone who hasn't seen it, its well worth a look IMHO, in spite of the phony accent of the lead actress (Vera, a cantankerous old trout) who is not from the NE (she's from Kent, thanks to @sanuk711 for that gem)

Complete Season 01 of Vikings: Valhalla is now available. As usual, full of historic inaccuracies, "artistic freedom", and wokenes. Perhaps the biggest point of contention is casting a black woman as a historically famous King (Jarl) Haakon Sigurdsson of Norway. Not only changing the race, but the gender as well, makes a lot of people, especially in Scandinavian countries, very upset. Let me just say it once and for all. THERE WERE NEVER ANY BLACK VIKINGS, men or women! Ever! Period!

So take it for whatever it is... A fantasy flick, not based on history at all but using historical names.

Though we don't agree on a lot things, I must agree The Informer is a great mini-series as was The Bodyguard, Trigger Point not so much.  Thanks for the tip I am enjoying The Informer at the moment.

I haven't seen Trigger Point, but The Informer and Bodyguard were very good IMHO.

Watched “Young Wallander S02”  Netflix— Got from -Everywhere--6 episodes….Good acting/good plot IMO. Same actors but, the big gap from Season 01 made me forget about a lot of the sub plots (He had a break down etc) that were going on in the office.

 

Still Watching –"Traces S02” Alibi TV & BBC 6 episodes—got from TVChaosUK-. Once again big gap, Season 1 was 2019 -you can still access it, and you should because it still revolves around the same murder---- Set in Dundee Scotland, a Forensic Lab where the main character last season started to realize that the forensic evidence she is analyzing could belong to her missing Mother.  

**FYI if you do not know Alibi TV it is an off shoot that only shows Crime- fact & Fiction from mainly UK/USA. https://alibi.uktv.co.uk/ mostly owned by the BBC which takes programs from it.

 

 

Watched “The Wimbledon Kidnapping” Sky PPV 1h.32 min, Doco…got from TG   I guess just about everyone in Oz or UK know this story—but, anyway, try not to give  spoilers in case. This was the first Kidnapping Case that Britain had ever seen--Late 1969 Rupert Murdoch, media mogul had just arrived from Oz a few years before and had made a big splash with his Newspapers, & was in the process of buying the largest selling Newspaper “News Of the world” He decided to take a quick trip with his wife back to Oz and left his 2nd in charge Bill McKay , also gave him & wife, his chauffeur driven RR to go around in. The Kidnappers wanting Mrs. Murdoch followed the rolls and snatched the wrong Lady, Muriel McKay. Not believing her when she said she wasn’t—they demanded £1 million.  A mad sum in the 60s equating to about £25 million now. Once again if the program shows anything it’s the complete ineptitude and stupidity of the British Police. -The Husband done this--- Murdoch done this for publicity for his new paper--- We think the IRA must have done this---Its just not a British crime,  of course the kidnappers clock is just ticking away.
