You're a musical adventurer Tippers, always looking for new material whilst I'm quite content to sit on the 500 odd songs I know on a loop for ever. Having said that, this thread is a joy to be part of, often hearing new material.

I shouldn't denigrate Hull, the place and people have character, much more than many other towns in the UK. I had a great time growing up there but I had to get out, first from the parochialism of the area, then finally from the dullness of the UK Dreadful weather, a tiny country, a million laws.

Regulated to death.

The freedom of movement Thai weather brings, the space upcountry, the friendliness of locals when you see them every day, all give me a sense of well being I could never achieve in the UK

Back in the 60's and early 70's AM radio in the States used to literally kill even great songs by over playing them.  To this day there are certain songs that I just can't tolerate hearing any longer.  In a sense what AM radio did to songs in short order the decades have done to the most popular rock music over time.  The classics will always be welcome to my ear but I need, rather want, more.

I ran across my high school class site on the Internet not long ago.  My yearbook is online so I took a trip down memory lane and checked out some of my former classmates.  I was surprised to see a goodly number of them who had lived their entire existences in the Chicago area.  And then there were some who never moved out of the 4 sq. mi. suburb where our high school was located.

To each their own but such a scenario would be torturous to me.  The consummate and never changing familiarity would be so stifling as to drive me mad, I think.  LOL  To play the same songs over and over again, with little change, is, to me, similar.  A good mix of great old standards and music which is very listenable is my ideal.

There's no right nor wrong to any of this, I know.  It's simply all about individual preferences and partialities, inclinations and temperaments.  The diversity is what's important, and it's ultimately complimentary.  Perhaps I'm a future rock 'n' roll archeologist, LOL.

Off of the same Garcia '72 self-titled solo debut, Sugaree.

More footage of OMF set to Elvin Bishop's Travelin' Shoes / Medley: Let The Good Times Roll / A Change Is Gonna Come / Bring It On Home To Me, live at the Roxy, Los Angeles, CA, in '76.  The profusion of nudity was all due to the intense heat.

There were signs like this everywhere selling any kind of drug you might be interested in.  I had bought something or other one late afternoon.  Can't remember what it was.  Went back to our campsite and passed it around (I went down with about 10 or so others so we had a decent sized campsite).  My brother-in-law had a cooler of steaks supplied by his mom, which we ate that night.

I woke up the next morning and one of the guys with us was laying face down half in/half out of his tent.  He started to stir awake and began mumbling about being uncomfortable because he was laying on something during the night.  He rolled over and it was his steak.  LOL

Festivals were great back in the early 70s. Sociologists always cite Altamont as the death of the hippie dream but I always remember a good vibe at UK events. Lots of good humour and banter between festival goers..

Happy Birthday Andy Powell, keeping the Wishbone flag flying.
