COVID-19: Thailand reports 3,899 new coronavirus cases, 19 deaths, 2,508 recoveries

Whats going on here, numbers are tiny, can't keep public holidays for such low vaccination rates...

To be fair, the UK slowed considerably over the Christmas holiday period but was hitting it out of the park before that.

Like him or loathe him, Boris seems to spend most of his time at vaccination centres when he's not in Downing Street.

He is banging the drum for boosters on a daily basis.

Thailand has nearly a full booster campaign to roll out, let alone getting 70% of it's population double jabbed.

Either fatigue is beginning to set in or else "who cares about the peasantry" syndrome.

Maybe the peasantry syndrome. The government hit it's 100million target, big fanfare, haven't we done well, photo shoot and speech and maybe now it's move along, forget about that now.

Didnt think it would be long before Dr Yong popped up on facebook again...................

Vaccinations, mutations among reasons why Omicron is less potent, says Thai virologist

Writing in his Facebook post today (Wednesday), he suggested the following:

Although more children are being infected by the Omicron variant, their conditions are not severe and most experience flu-like symptoms or no symptoms at all, unlike older people, whose condition tends to be more serious, depending on age.

Since most adults, including the elderly, have been inoculated, their symptoms tend to be less serious.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus, according to studies in South Africa, has mutated to the extent that the Omicron variant has become less potent than the Delta variant.

From lab studies, the Omicron variant tends to concentrate in the upper respiratory tract, instead of the lungs, resulting to fewer cases of lung infection.

Looks like they've got bored and are aiming for hopeful herd immunity by accident.

Thailand's 5 minute attention span now being applied to vaccinations.

Todays metric graph from Worldometers. Notice the massive increase in the past few days with Omicron versus the past.  Looking at South Africas information shows that they are on the backside going down almost as rapidly as it went up.

So if Thailand can see this as it is and for what it is worth, the possibility is that we should be on the backside of this by the end of February.

Lets hope so, I'm also hoping for a SA experience here as an optimistic outlook for the coming wave. Even with this best case scenario though, Thailand can still expect to see its covid deaths increase to over 100 a day again.

I just had a look at the Omicron deaths in SA and the lag in deaths no longer exists, they have been increasing steadily with its highest recorded yesterday at 139. Hopefully that will also be the peak and they will now start coming down.

#Omicron variant appeared in results from 20.92% of random tests, taken from Nov 1 to Jan 4, with a total of 2,338 cases spreading across 55 provinces of #Thailand. The 5 provinces with the highest instance of the new variant are Bangkok, Kalasin, Chon Buri, Roi Et & Samut Prakan

Thailand ‘on hold’ as it waits to see what Omicron will do

“Important decisions” are coming Friday on whether bars and nightlife venues may reopen, but with the daily caseload jumping by 25% overnight, revelers shouldn’t hold their breaths.

The biggest issue will include whether or not they will cancel the 90k Test N Go approvals, with people set to enter the country under that plan who had been approved.  Folks such as myself who scheduled in advance as many needed to get the approval before they could schedule time off from work and can not just travel on the spur of the moment.  Planning a trip takes a few months in advance with scheduling the time off, scheduling the hotel and flights and then jumping through the process set by this government.  If they were to make Test N Go now approval a 7 day ASQ, it would not affect me to badly, but folks who only had 2 to 3 weeks of vacation time would see the vacation crumble.

The tourism sector is just starting to awaken from an almost 2 year slumber, but shutting it down completely would basically Kill off Thailand as a tourist destination.  Omicron is fast moving with it going up and then down unlike we saw with Delta.

Forget about Omicron, France has a new virus, coming from ... Africa, Kameroen.

You can google it, im not making it up. Was on news internet (MSN) this morning, but already many sites come up with it

Not yet another Greek letter, but it is there.

Good thing from WHO, forget about other countries to vaccinate and you ll get new ones on your plate.

That is proven now ever since pandemic started.

We are running around in circles with no proper actions.  Pfizer and Modena are laughing their ass of.

Many YouTube vlogs now turning up about people testing positive on arrival.

Young English guy has said his insurance company may not pay for his 10 day asymptomatic incarceration.

Bill is 200,000 baht.

He's telling people not to come near Thailand.

Many guys on the PA forum are openly bailing now and most postponing until the end of this year.

People in the UK are beginning to openly talk about opening up and starting to live with covid.

I think Thailand will be unnecessarily cautious for a very long time.

The snail pace of vaccination is not doing expat or tourists any favours.

The HiSo's really don't care.

The 7-day average is still very low. I expect a small uptick in numbers in the next week, but this blip will level off soon and numbers should come down to 0 soon after.

Good job, Thailand!

It's not a variant of concern, just like Beta and many others were not.

Fifth wave of COVID-19 already sweeping through Thailand – Medical Services chief

Thailand is facing the fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic sooner than anticipated, with the curve of infections on a steep rise and body temperature scanners installed in most offices and public venues not catching asymptomatic cases, said Dr. Somsak Akksilp, director-general of Medical Services today (Wednesday).

A temperature scanner be it a thermal or camera style body scanner will not catch an asymptomatic infected person.  There is no fever, ergo why they are asymptomatic.......

But then you need to look at South Africas graph I posted earlier in the thread to see just how fast it starts to drop back down unlike Delta did.  Thailand numbers are food for the worms as they do not test and like to play games yet talk the talk of massive numbers coming.
