Vaccinations, mutations among reasons why Omicron is less potent, says Thai virologist

Citing the case of Denmark, during the COVID-19 Alpha variant pandemic in 2020-21, Dr. Yong noted that the average daily infection rate over a week was 3,332 with 30 fatalities in 2020, but one year later, the average daily infections are 41,035, but deaths dropped to 12.

A year ago 'experts' would have called that explanation conspiracy and the mutations would become more and more deadly, and would have said that the only way out is through vaccine herd immunity.

One year later were back to normal virology regarding the nature of viral mutations and natural herd immunity.  Even the great Dr Yong is now admitting virological norms - over time viruses become more infectious and less dangerous until they burn out.  That your left with a seasonal flu or a seasonal cold - or nothing at all.

After Alpha came Delta which transformed the pandemic into a worse situation than with Alpha.

As for the herd immunity narrative with Omicron infecting everyone and leaving the world a better place, thats yet to be proven, its a hope but past evidence is that the milder case you get of covid the less immunity you will have.

What experts were those who were predicting that the virus would become more deadly? I'm calling your bluff because that's what it is.

And no, it's not necessarily true that over time viruses become less dangerous.

Not until the tourism industry in Thailand is completely decimated.

"Decimated" = 10% destruction.

That would probably be acceptable to most.

Might I suggest "annihilated"  as an alternative?

  • According to Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution, a microorganism, such as the virus, is constantly adapting, to enable it to enter the host cells for its own survival, while humans who have been infected with a virus will build up immunity to it. If the virus kills the host, it would have nowhere to multiply and survive.

Wow, I have been saying this for over a year.  It is common knowledge that viruses tend to become more easily spread but less lethal as they mutate.  Why would a virus mutation survive if it kills its host quickly?

You learn this in middle school yet so many people on this forum thought it was a false concept.

This sounds good, but remember that SARS2 has a reservoir in bats, and they can live with it. Maybe we have to develop a variant that will be injurious to bats, but then what? Maybe the environment needs bats.

Meantime hospitals are becoming overwhelmed and people are not being treated for other diseases.

I keep reading that, but when I go to hospital websites and look at the statistics, it shows that Covid patients are just a small fraction of the overall patients.  And the ICUs are being overwhelmed by non Covid patients.

What are all the other people who are currently in the ICU there for?

Could they possible be there because of their poor lifestyle choices such as alcohol/drug use, poor diets, belonging to a gang and getting shot, issues arising from being obese/overweight?

@ozimoron.  Do facts make you sad because they go against your dishonest fear mongering narrative?

How does your data there argue against my claim that hospitals are being overwhelmed? You deflect with unrelated data and tell me I'm afraid of facts? Somehow, because non covid cases outnumber covid cases that is meant to represent ICU's not being overwhelmed? Not that I even mentioned ICU's but it's also true they are being overwhelmed and staff are suffering major burnout and infections with many absences due to illness.

If you actually read some MSM news you might be better informed. Here is some reading for you. Not that I expect you to do any due diligence and actually read them.

Do you keep all those links in a file for quick reference?  Pathetic.

I provided you with facts and data from one of the largest hospital systems in the US.  Those facts show that Covid hospitalizations are a big nothingburger compared to all the other reasons people are being hospitalized.

If there is staff burnout, perhaps hospitals should hire more staff.  I’m sure the staff spend more time with the majority of other patients who are there for non Covid reasons.

You want to know who is most likely overwhelming the hospital system?  Fat people.

are the links I posted fake news? It took 10 seconds to get that list using Google. How does your data show that hospitals are not being overwhelmed? You invariably fail to ante up when challenged. You seem to believe fat people are the cause of all hospital admissions for covid. Unbelievable. You know what the biggest problem is that keeps us from getting past covid? Stupid people who won't vaccinate.

Oh…Doctor Google linking to MSM articles.

Laughable.

I failed to ante up?  That’s a steaming heap of dung.

I posted data with the link to back it up.  If you either choose not to read it or are unable to interpret it, that’s your problem.  I have neither the time nor the crayons to explain it to you.

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/03/08/covid-cdc-study-finds-roughly-78percent-of-people-hospitalized-were-overweight-or-obese.html

92.8% of the COVID-19 deaths were associated with a pre-existing comorbidity. The risk of mortality associated with at least one comorbidity combined was 1113 times higher than that with no comorbidity.

Then can we open up with precautions, booster and masks dear doctor?

With a bit of luck we might well be on the path to that at last ... more data required though ... fingers crossed ...

That makes it ok does it? That somebody with a comorbidity gets to die much faster because of covid? You have an unhealthy fixation about fat people.  Your post in no way, shape or form establishes that hospitals are not overwhelmed which was my claim and now you demonstrate that you are incapable of explaining how it might.

Where did he get those numbers from?

We had the highest numbers of positives registrered yesterday here in Denmark and it was:

28,283 positives from 231,270 PCR tests.

Maybe i need a new brain, but daily infections can never average at 41,035 if the highest daily number was 28,283 which we had yesterday.

The last 7 days we had 119,953 cases which average at 17,136 daily.

Quoting the overwhelming of UK health services on this topic could be a misleading example

I believe the statement 'healthcare services overwhelmed by covid' is an excuse for the regular overwhelming of the UK health service in winter every year for the past 10 years which was steadily getting worse because staffing levels are reduced from what they used to be. At one time you had 12% extra staff on any ward or unit to allow for absences due to sickness or resignation/promotion. That 12% has been removed to cut costs and staff who resign are not replaced immediately, the post is only advertised after they have left then it takes 3 months to get the new member of staff into post. Hence there are staff shortages and wards are empty.

For the government there is no point in re-opening the tourism industry now - we are just a few months away from the Western World recession that should have started Q2 2020 kicking in (it was postponed due to massive cash injections on behalf of Covid, nothing to do with printing money for the last decade at all, obviously).

Couple that with an election year in Thailand, they are trying their best to keep the fear high and protests low until they get another 5 years of whatever it is.

Possibly next high season they may try again but for now it's batten down the hatches time - get used to it.
