I like these polymer notes , gives me peace of mind ,that

my stash of 50 Quid notes in the safe won't get eaten by

termites , still have at least couple thousand of the old

ones , will have to exchange soon ,as they go out of

circulation ,but Sterling has dropped again ....

Cash will be pretty much obsolete in thenot too future anyway. Everything digital and traceable.

...and controllable. There will be no way to "forget" to pay taxes. Governments will just help themselves to your money as they wish.

Does the plastic contain animal material. which was frowned on by vegans and Muslims in UK?

They do. I wonder how the Muslims in Thailand will manage?

  1. Quote

    1. Use of animal fat
    2. In polymer banknotes, animal fat is used. The use of animal fat has caused a stir in the United Kingdom. Vegan and religious groups are not happy with this. However, the alternative - switching to palm oil - has been rejected by the Bank of England. The production of palm oil is known for being non environmentally friendly.

UK had a similar problem way back in its empire days when they issued Indian Muslims with bullets coated in pig fat preservative.

In India most places wont accept notes with anything handwritten on them. Not sure why.

Same problem if there is a little tear.

Easier to put them in the temple donation box than to try and pass them on.

I even see the Thai bank officers at the counter writing numbers on the notes which is ridiculous.

I don't know about you guys but a lot of times I confused a 50 for a 20. I hope these new ones are better.

I mixed up notes as well when in Thailand.

At times gave 1000 baht when i was supposed to give 100 baht.

Vendors polite enough to point it out ????

Maybe it's because their banknotes are so alike in Thailand?

A comparison between Australia, Thailand and Denmark.

Not talking about the art, but just that some notes are easiers to tell from others.

Thai people have the obnoxious habit of writing things on bank-notes. They used it as some sort of convenient paper.

Yes, the bank tellers have this habit.

It'll be interesting once these new notes come into circulation, how the bank tellers will track!!!

UK notes used to ping out of peoples pockets, my gaze will be firmly on the pavements of Thailand when these come into circulation!

You would have to be quick to be ahead of the locals. A particular GGB in Pattaya, the male staff spent more time  sweeping near your ankles looking for dropped notes than doing security,

Yep we been usin' dem' polymer notes for years in Oz. Very durable and unless the edges are nicked impossible to tear. The security holograms etc are unforgeable too which makes the currency much much safer.

As to doing away with paper/polymer money I kinda like a wad in my pocket sometimes. Nothing like the smell of fresh pineapples, lobsters, or even better a wad of granny smiths lol ???? in the ol kick.

16 years here and I've never seen this practice whereby they deface the kings picture/currency. I gotta pocket full of notes now and I'll bet that not one has been defaced. It's not the Thai way.

Edit: Nah not one.

Polymer slides easier out of the Wallet than paper.

My wife will love that, But I want notes that will stick in my wallet as long as possible.

I'm still using a wallet that an old girlfriend gave me 15 years ago. When I told her that the wallet lasted so long, she said, "It's because you never open it."

Actually the worst is the US dollar same size and almost the same color.

I like the Synthetic polymers from oil best.  Like the thousands of other products

made from oil.  I guess I am just an old fashioned senior. I have read that plant based

and maybe animal fat polymers may have some advantage, but the auto industry

would not be what it is if not for oil. My opinion only. Nice to see the new currency

and it does last longer than the old paper currency of the past.
