It was reported recently that Thaksin is hoping to conclude his takeover of Manchester City within the next fortnight, remarking that he hoped to inspire "poor Asian children by owning an English soccer club". He was also quoted, displaying his usual eloquent English language skills, as saying: "Sports provide opportunities for the gifted young generation to have an opportunity to show themselves, to make themselves a millionaire."

Even though Ollie Goddard of the Manchester City Supporters' Trust recently concluded that "...we are still concerned that our club could be damaged by association with him, particularly if criminal proceedings are mounted and he is imprisoned or subjected to huge financial penalties", and Dr Juree Vichit-Vadakan, secretary-general of the Thailand branch of Transparency International said "...British people should think harder whether they want somebody to buy a football club who is surrounded by moral uncertainty", the deal is going ahead regardless.

So what of ethics when City continues to promote their identity as a "community club", proclaiming themselves "Pure Manchester" when, at the same time, appearing to see no conflict between the slogan and the proposed ownership by a man described by Transparency International as "employing corrupt activities".

Money, it seems, will get past all objections these days. Or is this just another one of his publicity ploys and is heavily laden with <deleted>?

I answered to this question elsewhere yesterday on the question of Thaksin and Man City :

'It was more like 3,000 who were murdered by the Royal Thai Police in Thaksin's ridiculous attempt to clear Thailand of ya-ba (methamphetamine) within 3 months. A lot weren't middle-men at at all. But young men (some as young as thriteen) that had often been planted with as little as ten tablets after been shot dead. Most of the Thai mafia weren't apprehended - let alone killed - as the police are in cohorts.

Then of course there was his infamous, corrupt dealings in the Shin Corporation takeover. Control of the media to such an extent that Thaksin was labelled "Hitler in Democracy". There's lots more.

After the 2006 coup it means that Thaksin in now living in London as an exile, his political party Thai Rak Thai disbanded for violating electoral laws and Thaksin persona non grata in his own country.

Thaksin is still thought to be pulling political strings in Thailand and if he is foolish enough to return , then a lenghty stay in Bangkwang Prison (Bangkok Hilton) will come as a bit of a shock after staying in other Hilton Hotels , as his previous life style would have been more accustomed.

Manchester City could well rue the day that they took his investment as a short term lift to become another foreign invested, sugar daddy outfit who want to compete at the very top. It could also turn out to be their fatal demise.

They're a club with massive potential. If they don't wait for someone less dodgey to invest, then their lack of foresight may well become a very stupid move indeed.

There won't be many wearing Thai made Manchester City replica shirts in Bangkok and that's for sure.'

Clearly trying to wind us Blues up eh mate!

Here's the thing. You try defining what Thaksin has actually done wrong - WHAT HAS HE BEEN PROVEN TO HAVE DONE WRONG IN A COURT OF LAW? - been lots of accusations here, and until a week ago not a lot was proven. His party was disbanded and its probably reasonable to assumethat he had a major hand in the 'voting' crimes. But what has HE done that is proven - the 'voting' crimes was his party, he wasn't named to the best of my knowledge. So if i've lived here for yonks and i can't pin his "crimes" down (if any), how can the people in the Blue half of Manchester see him other than a very rich deposed Prime Minister ousted in coup being accused by the ousters and others. And i think the peoples self-appointed voice Ollie was merely voicing the opinion of what if he has done something wrong what would happen to us (and his money) - i think Chelski fans used to say the same thing.

I personally hope he doesn't buy us. But trying it on with the "pure Manchester" angle. You're a red no doubt.

and he has got himself a NEW Job........

AFP, TOKYO ...(with thanks)

Friday, Jun 08, 2007,

Thaksin Shinawatra, Thailand's ousted prime minister who is bidding for Manchester City, said yesterday he hoped to inspire poor Asian children by owning an English soccer club.

Thaksin, a self-made billionaire and avid soccer fan, is considered the favorite to takeover Manchester City in a deal estimated at around ?100 million (US$197 million).

"In getting involved in the football club in England or in the Premier League, we will allow another window open for the younger generation in Asia. That is what I think," the exiled former leader told reporters in Tokyo.

"Anything that we can do to provide opportunities to younger generations in Asia, we should do it," he said.

Thaksin's great-grandfather was an impoverished Chinese immigrant, and he said that in Thailand "there are still many poor but talented" children.

He said that in the West, sports "provide opportunities for the gifted young generation to have an opportunity to show themselves, to make themselves a millionaire."

In 2004 Thaksin led a Thai consortium that tried to buy a 30 percent stake in Liverpool, angering some local fans who wanted to keep the team in British hands.

After being ousted by a military coup in September last year, the former Thai prime minister has spent much of his time in London in between traveling around the world.

Thaksin is in Tokyo to take up a position as visiting professor of business and economics at Takushoku University.

"I've tried to find myself a job by employing myself as a chairman of a football club, but it's not quick enough," he said with a laugh. "The university is quicker by employing me as a visiting professor." :D

He said it was his "first employment after being ousted and unemployed for a while." :o

Sources say that Thailand's Assets Examination Committee has informed

mobile broadcast units of several TV stations to be on standby to

broadcast live its decision as to whether to freeze assets of former

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. The broadcast will probably take

place in the early evening Bangkok time.

I do hope this is true and he is cashstrapped come tomorrow!

Thaksin's so good at spouting sh*te even half of Manchester thought he was going to save them ... just like the poor of Isaan and Northern Thailand. Trust me, that it'll be a good thing in the long run for Citeh, that he doesn't get his hands on the club.

now mr.T has had his and all his family's bank accounts frozen , looks like the poorer half of Manchester will have to find another mug to try and stop them from being the laughing stock of English football.

I'm sure that the City fans who have been to or have knoledge of LOS would not want taksin as the boss of their club .

And anyway , he's probably thinking more about 'sanam luang' than the city of manchester stadium :D:D .

P.S - I do hope City get a good takeover with a good manager.

P.P.S - who is your next manager going to be ???? :o:D:D .
