webfact
During nationwide searches last week, Thailand’s Livestock Development Department found that about 13.4 million kilogrammes of frozen pork were being stored in 539 cold storage facilities amid record-high pork prices, according to Government Deputy Spokesperson Rachada Dhnadirek this morning (Monday). She said that there are also 10.84 million live pigs, including about 49,000 boars and 979,000 sows being raised by about 107,000 pig farmers across the country in the month of January. Compared to statistics for the same period last year, the number of overall live pigs has dropped by 11.81%. There has been a 41.1% drop in the number of boar breeders and 11.16% reduction in the number of sow breeders. The number of fattening pigs has reduced by 13.9%. -- © Copyright Thai PBS 2022-01-24 - Aetna offers a range of visa-compliant plans that meet the minimum requirement of medical treatment, including COVID-19, up to THB 3m. There is something called the internet, and another thing called telephone, that allows you to keep in touch with your friends wherever you are. And some of these friends happen to be more informed than some government employees - or with less brown envelopes.

djayz
Why would they publish these findings? They confirm Taksins' claims. How can this be good for the current crowd? I would have put money on such searches not even being carried out, let alone such damning results being published.

Of course there always has to be a " buffer stock " of anything such as this, but this is enough Pork to feed the entire Population for nearly 10 days. If the number of Pigs due for culling is also considered, they there does not appear to be any natural shortage of Pork IMO, as the reduction is only 14 %, and with 11 Million live Pigs, that will have a culling weight of about 80 Kg maybe, of which 40 Kg will be meat
mtls2005
So what. Is that more, or less, or just the right amount? 6 minutes ago, Cake Monster said: 13.4 Million Kgs of Pork in cold storage does seem to be a rather large amount. "rather a large amount". Popular Post Adumbration
I told you so. I will just cut and paste my post in another thread from a few days ago: Yes. Pork is now bouncing off 200 baht a kilo. How does a workaday bloke with a family get by with a daily wage of 300 baht. Last year chicken was 45 baht a kilo today it was 97. Outrageous price increases of circa 100 percent....but...very importantly, don't believe the lies that it is due to covid. It is because corruption is out of control here in Thailand and there is no one to pull up the 12 or so families that own everything. They are hiking the prices based on lies and no one (in any position of authority) is stepping in to call them out.
MrJ2U
13.4 million kilos. Considering Thailand consumes over 700 million kilograms of pork a year it won't help much. ....But as usual the few who run the pork monopoly oppose any imports of pork. Looks like alligator, rat, and Sinewy chicken for the time being.
Sydebolle
Busy boards, it seems ....... Whatever, it is a lot of "oink, oink, oink" and no surprised here, Thais are used to bend and break any law, rules or suggestion for the sake of personal benefit and greed!
Popular Post RobU
I understand from a friend that many small pork breeders (2 or 3 pigs) are under contract to sell only to specific buyers. However those buyers are refusing to buy and slaughter pigs keeping the price high and the sellers are not allowed to sell elsewhere. It has been going on for some time now the small farmers are going out of business and refuse to raise any more pigs. This price rise has been deliberately manufactured by cartels.
