As you may also know dual tuition prices are also the case for Americans. In-state tuition is considerably less for residents. Also note that a few nights in a hotel are a far cry from a semester or more at a university. My adopted Japanese daughter paid $18,000 for her last year of high school in Colorado about 20 years ago. Given that most state functions and even private enterprises general suck on the government t*t to some extent or another and that taxes pay for the government, I don't personally get exercised about dual pricing. It happens pretty much everywhere in the world as you point out. I'm not going to get bent about a few hundred ฿. I didn't move here because it was cheap, but because the 2016 election convinced me to get out of Dodge before it got worse (and it did). My home country has become almost unrecognizable and I have no intention of returning.

You can make a case for dual pricing in cases when the facility or attraction is provided by organisations funded by taxpayers money. It is not a case which I think is particularly strong, nor is it one with which I particularly agree, nonetheless there is a case. When dual pricing is applied to quarantine hotel pricing, as in the OP, restaurant prices and a myriad of other privately run activities and attractions then it is nothing more than greed and gouging. stupidfarang
I had dual pricing in July last year, found the price at some hotels for Thai was cheaper than for Farang for a 14 day stay. What can you do? And they want tourists back. Also what happens if on the second test you are positive for Covid, how much do you have to pay for quarenteen in a hotel? No concessions whatsoever. Got a link to the opera house pricing, I looked on the website but could not find the foreigner price. 1

Not when I had a hernia operation at Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital! In fact my bill came to less money than a Thai from the village where I live, when I had one extra night in a private room! So, this is not always the case.

Japan was the highest than came America than Canada and Aussie's were 4th. If they can get away with it in Thailand, this will never stop unless the government does it's job and ends this.

Being the poor of the world is what they have institutionalized with that dual pricing logic. I dont believe Thais are poor, may be not living with luxury but hard to see people starving on road. Poverty is real in countries like India, South Sudan , Bangladesh but you wont see different charge for foreigners. Thais are middle class. I would say logic of charging a different price to foreigner comes from the idea of "Thai is for Thais", Junta or M (cant spell it out) has created this nationalistic fervor with a notion that Foreigners are coming to get their houses so we will welcome them for their money but stick it to them so that they dont think about living long term. This way we keep our holy land to ourselves(For Junta and M) .

Sticky Rice Balls
to be charged double and be "cheated" one must give their money to the "scammer"... I live in local area and am aware of the local price--always ask price first if not listed before buying goods or services...i often watch a thai in front of me to see what they pay if unsure... Shop around--I rarely go to spot that would double charge--vote with your money and choices A fun experiment I did one day was go to every pharmacy I found to ask about Viagra--555 Was amazing the prices i got--from 500 to 180 all for the exact same product....i got the 180 box! Always good to have a thai friend too...and speak minimal thai.....I own my own motorcycle and pay 3500 for my studio--same as thais in my building as im the only farang--also got stared at tonight as i sat with locals outside eating my food at mae hia market---I rarely run into farangs Im moving to a new studio next month and suspect my apt manager is skimming a bit--cases of water used to be 40--now 60..small stuff..if he tries anything with my security deposit I have already planned to go right to the owner..whom I got his contact info long ago----always cover your a$$ in LOS.....Im always polite and smile with the apt manager.....but always document our exchanges.....
