Local Restaurant Sends "Request For Recommendation" To Friend's Phone

Featured Replies

A friend got a message on his phone asking him to rate the restaurant he visited the previous night.

So how does that work? How can the restaurant know his (smart) phone number?

And how can it be stopped?

And thanks to you, Kan Win! ????

So nobody knows the answers to my questions, or else it's so obvious that no one wants to say... like: turn your smart phone off before going into a restaurant or don't use their Wi-Fi?

I visit the same restaurant and I'm sure I connected to their Wi-Fi too, but didn't get any spam messages like he did.

Maybe the MalwareBytes installed on my phone stopped it.

Any Android-phone-techy people want to comment?

It's always a "friend".

Need more detail, maybe you could talk to your "friend"?

How was this message delivered - via which app - messaging/SMS, LINE, Tinder, Christian Mingle?

And it wasn't some SMS for discount or similar, where your "friend" got a discount for sharing the phone number?

Bluetooth and Wifi won't get your phone number.

Yes. And I doubt the ISOC loaned out their Stingray kit. That's reserved for dissidents.

But unclear if the message was an SMS, waiting on a "friend".

Did he scan the barcode with his ThaiChan app? I've been getting spam calls and messages since I started doing that.

What a pity you didn't post this earlier - I just saw him at the restaurant.

OK. I'll send him an email asking for more information about the message.

Covid log in paper in most restaurants.  His wife logged him in.

sms or email? or just a notification on the phone

could have been google, not the restaurant's doing

Wow. She rose from the grave, did she? Have another guess.  ????

Edit: On 2nd thoughts, don't bother.

Unfortunately, he's not too phone-savvy. He replied that he was so p***** off at seeing it on his phone that he just swiped it off. Unless there's an easy way to determine what has been "swiped off", we'll never know - unless he gets another one.

We were at the same place last night, but no "Request for restaurant rating" messages.

I have MalwareBytes on my phone - I don't know whether that can stop/block this apparent tracking.

Don't you mean the "imaginary friend " bin?    roflmao.gif.e76be7284c1ad69803f5d9cf5d1311cb.gif
