A Thai doctor told INN that it is possible to make a full recovery from the condition known as "Long Covid".

Patients who look after their all round health would recover 100% with no further complications in their lives said director of the Medical department Dr Somsak Akkasin yesterday.

He said that Long Covid presents itself as a set of conditions three months after a patient has had Covid-19.

It usually affects those who had a severe case of the virus, appeared more in women than men, the obese and heart problem patients.

Conditions related to Long Covid were related to respiratory function, the nervous system, digestion and blood circulation but could all be overcome longer term, he said.

Might be possible but might take a long time

Got two colleagues that still fight this darn thing.

One still can't taste anything after 4 months and one has permanent damage to the lung tissue, which might not be long covid, but causes respiratory issues, due to decreased lung capacity.

Long covid are going to be a burden for a lot of people for quite some time, and the financial burden is another problem.

Both for the individual and health care systems.

The good news is the lungs are probably the best organs for recovery. I had 2 litres of blood pumped out of my lungs after a particualrly bad accident and 1 year later my lung capacity is back to 100%.

'The lungs’ large surface area exposes the organ to a continual risk of damage from pathogens, toxins or irritants; however, lung damage can be rapidly healed via regenerative processes that restore its structure and function'.   https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7338595/

Wishing them a speedy recovery.

Actually, the article discusses 2 ways that the lungs deal with damage. One is "regeneration", which you cited. The other is "repair".

"In response to sustained and extensive damage, the lung is healed via a non‐regenerative process resulting in scar tissue which locally stiffens its structure, which over time leads to a serious loss of lung function and to increasing morbidities."

Lots of scarring can be caused by covid.

Fair point.

It takes 25 years though.

Could very well be. Of course it’s possible to make a 100% recovery, but there are just too many unknowns right now. Some people have recovered from long covid, other people haven’t and still have mild to quite severe symptoms. How long that will be is anyone’s guess.
In my country (The Netherlands) there are hundreds of health workers who suffer from long covid and have been sick for almost two years, not being able to return to work, not even part time. And when you’re sick for more than two years here, you lose your job and your income takes a big hit.

My SIL got covid was out for it for quite some time. Now she is reclaiming her stamina. I am not saying everyone will recover fully but many people will especially if they exercise and take care of their diet. If you have had lung damage that might be a problem. But it depends a lot on how healthy you were before. If not that healthy you can even get more healthy then before by just exercising and increasing VO2Max.

So it depends on what kind of shape you were before, believe it or not most of us can improve a lot if we really want too. But if you expect to get back to normal without any effort then that might not work.

But in the more serious cases its quite possible you will never be able to get back to normal.

Not to overlook that LC also affects kids.

reality check for the Thai bashers: This doctor undoubtedly confers with colleagues overseas on a regular basis and has some reason to believe that what he says is true. Undoubtedly, patients have recovered from LC. He also used the word possible. Does anyone here know better than he does? If so, speak up. Otherwise, well....
