Daily News Thai Caption: Hunting the hunters

Daily News reported that the environment minister Varawut Silpa-Archa said that the Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha - who they called Big Too in their headline - was getting tough on tiger poachers and hunters.

Reinforcements are being drafted in to bolster efforts to protect tigers in the area of Kanchanaburi where there have already been arrests after two carcasses were found and parts of tigers were BBQing.

There is now illegal activity going on by hunters unauthorised to look for a three legged tiger who rangers are trying to trap and save after several attacks in the area.

It involves an illegal trap or snare that was dug with the person responsible facing jail or a 500,000 baht fine.

Bad enough having insatiable Chinese market. The local oligarchs like shooting rare animals for sport.

Villagers are so poor they are driven to raping the forests.

Who here thinks there will be wild tigers in SEA in 10 years? Not me.

They can't even keep motorcycles off the footpath.

Anytime it is announced that Prayuth is getting tough on something, one has to be careful for the two week period until it is all forgotten. This man has proven himself time and time again, to be anything but a master of follow up.

Preventing the killing of exotic and rare wildlife is always a good thing. If only there was some sincerity behind it.

I'm with the PM on this regards, infarct, all hunting of wild life to stop or with very limited permits and only those animals who are plenty in nature... enough with the senseless exterminations of engendered animals...

Ever stop and think why in the US we have states where the deer population is a nuisance and there are plenty of deer to hunt annually, but here in Thailand about the only place you can find wildlife like deer are in a National Reserve where they still aren't safe?
There is such a disdain for authority and laws as well as virtually no enforcement.  How sad.
