tgw Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/01/11/7384439/ Putin demotes Surovikin, replacing him with Gerasimov as commander of war in Ukraine I think that move is significant. Gerasimov has been chief of Ruzzia's general staff for over ten years. Even if Dr. Evil Surovikin will remain as his deputy, Gerasimov is an important figure. I'm unsure what Putin's goal is behind this move.

It is going to Poland and Lithuania to strengthen the US presence . Apparently it was already planned in 2014 after russia invaded Crimea.I am sure some one is going to cry foul over this.

Bkk Brian Posted January 12, 2023 Posted January 12, 2023 The battle is still on but its fierce and unsure how long Ukrainians can hold on? Battle rages in Ukraine over salt town of Soledar The fate of a devastated salt-mining town in eastern Ukraine hung in the balance Wednesday in one of the bloodiest battles of Russia's invasion, while Ukraine's unflagging resistance and other challenges prompted Moscow to shake up its military leadership again. Russian forces used jets, mortars and rockets to bombard Soledar in an unrelenting assault. Though unlikely to provide a turning point in the war, Soledar's fall to Russian forces after months of Ukrainian defence would be a prize for the Kremlin, which has been starved of good news from the battlefield amid Ukraine's counteroffensive in recent months. https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/russia-ukraine-war-1.6710014 1

So let’s hear your theory… If I'm obsessive it's because WW3 involves lots and lots of nuclear weapons, and probably the end of life as we know it. If you don't know how the present conflict could escalate to nuclear war, or who would be involved should you be commenting about it, as it's pretty obvious? Ever heard of unintended consequences?

Popular Post tgw Posted January 12, 2023 Popular Post Posted January 12, 2023 some better news at last: https://kyivindependent.com/news-feed/german-minister-berlin-shouldnt-oppose-transfer-of-polish-leopard-tanks-to-ukraine German vice-chancellor says Germany shouldn't oppose the delivery by Poland of 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. Let's hope Scholz can be convinced too. What I'm wondering is whether these tanks will be delivered within their usual combat outfit applying their combat doctrine. Tanks alone are vulnerable, they need recon vehicles, some mechanised infantry to provide security and help with tank maintenance, and support vehicles, possibly also provide close range air defense. 14 Leopards could fill a tank company with 3x4 platoons + a command platoon with 2 tanks, analog to standard NATO spec. plus 2 utility vehicles, 2 cargo trucks, 1 recovery unit, but it will work best if embedded into a NATO-type combined arms tank brigade structure. 3 1 1
