Not opposing Russia now will almost inevitably lead to more and more problems in future, some of which may be even more intractable.

Have to agree with this, when Putin was looking for ways to turn the tide in his favour he and his generals thought the massive missile strikes targeting Ukraine's power supplies would break its infrastructure, instill terror and ultimately break the will of the people. He FAILED. Yet again.

Regardless, Russia having the means to destroy you and everyone you know and your country is why European countries and America can't just go barging in, unless their existence is at stake, which it isn't.

 

A US president a while back said, "walk softly and carry a big stick" which holds true today. Unless a country can either defend itself, or join an alliance that can, weak countries will likely be taken over, as has happened as long as there have been countries.

That's why there is NATO, an alliance to defend itself against Russian imperialism and barbarism, and the West has every right to supply weapons to Ukraine to defend itself.

As an organization NATO isn't involved. But individual nations that happen to be members of NATO are, as is their right. There's no rule saying that a member of NATO can't give aid to nations that aren't NATO members.
