A Thai person can marry a Kiwi, get into NZ, stay with him for 2 years, get citizenship, divorce him, buy her own house (with the 50/50 split), do whatever jobs she likes, full welfare same as any Kiwi born here and after 10 years will get a full NZ pension when she retires.. and then also sponsor family members as well.. you think I can do that in Thailand ?

THailand only for Thai people, so no.. impossible just as many other things foreigners are a burden, but they pretend that they wecome them if they bring enough money in.. But the foreigners know , so......

Dang, I had my sights set on a career in Salt Farming.

For me it's cleaning beaches. It's still only farang that are interested in that and Thai nationals definitely won't compete.

Pay is not good though, mostly just empty energy drink bottles.

Yes they are.  You think a Thai person can go on holiday to UK or American and then get a job there or start their own business?

In the UK it may be possible, under the right circumstances. Not sure how long it would last, but would depend on the job or business,

Yes, Thais can go to the UK or USA and get a work permit for an unskilled job (just look at the residential homes for the elderly in the UK, without Thais and other foreign nationals they'd have no staff.) The issue here is that only skilled labourers are allowed to work here whilst the unskilled Thais can go to our countries and get WP's and jobs.

Only Thai massage?

So I can be legally employed by a massage shop and give my famous Kentucky Massage?

Kentucky windage massage.......relaxing the body by an odiferous release, or wait hitting the target from a distance by licking your finger and holding it in the air...which one is it.

Of course they are.  If a foreigner wants to work in the UK they need a work permit and to get a work permit they have to be skilled and, almost exactly like here:

To qualify for a Skilled Worker visa, you must:

- work for a UK employer that’s been approved by the Home Office

- have a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ from your employer with information about the role you’ve been offered in the UK

- do a job that’s on the list of eligible occupations

-be paid a minimum salary - how much depends on the type of work you do

And, guess what, hair dresser is not one of the eligible occupations in the UK either.

Seriously what kind of reality do you live in when you think we are discriminated against for needing to be highly skilled in a specialist industry to be granted a work permit?  It is normal.

https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa

Well reported, but of course, it will not change the minds (such as they have)  of the twisted anti Thai mob on here, who see racial prejudice at every turn. Thais protect Thais, which is as it should be.

we won't be able to afford to live here if that happens. it'll become like Singapore, expensive dull and boring.

Take away the cheap cost of living and my reason to feel superior over the locals why would I bother living here

I think from what I've read it is one of those things that is against the law but they turn a blind eye to it presumably because it promotes Thailand (mainly). They should be paying taxes as well ?

I saw a teacher (I think british). He quit his teaching job in Thailand and just does youtube now.

His work permit was surely connected to his teaching job. Now how does he stay in Thailand and he survives with his youtube channel, surely not having any work permit for this and taxes???

What's about all those Youtubers?

They come here and start straight away a youtube channel.

They live here and that is their source of income.

and digital  operators and it seems no work permit needed?

People just seem oblivious to how the employment system works all over the world. It is pretty much the same all over.

In the US, to work you need a H1B1 visa which is only given to those with sponsorships and in skilled positions. The other way is to become a permanent resident and then you can work anywhere you want.

Sure there are many illegals working. However, if you get caught, you get deported. If you are working without a working permit, you get deported.

I think the government should welcome us more with no hassles to work as volunteers in many areas of Thailand like [ teaching English] or many of the skills that we the retired men and woman have to make this country better.

@vandeventer so you wanna put foreign people who are teaching here out of work? if you're retired stay retired.     you've done your bit, leave the work to people who still need to earn money.   just cuz you don't need the money, that's a pretty selfish way of thinking.

Are you seriously saying that Thais are excluded from working in the UK ?

They are not excluded, any more than foreigners here are excluded.  They have to apply for a work permit, or be a dependent with an appropriate visa/leave to remain ,  or a student on certain courses and /or have specific skills that the UK needs.  Oh wait, just like Thailand. UK must be just as racist then?  That's how idiotic  most of this post has become.

It is illegal. If you get caught, you will be deported. Yes, many of the digital nomads are working illegally. It is not a good idea to brag about it outside the digital nomad circle.

At least you don't really see them.

All those youtubers, it's obvious what they do and it's not to report about your holidays, it's about where they live and a few of them make decent money.
