I think the government should welcome us more with no hassles to work as volunteers in many areas of Thailand like [ teaching English] or many of the skills that we the retired men and woman have to make this country better.

2003-2008 my Thai wife who I married in Thailand came to the UK, she was granted a 2-year visa from the UK embassy in BKK.

It was then renewed after 2 years in UK to residency via a postal application [no immigration visits required]

She got her social security number soon after arriving and could work at whatever she wanted, no change of visa, no work permit no BS.

But then UK want people to assimilate, work pay taxes and integrate.

Thailand just wants money, not people.

THailand only for Thai people, so no.. impossible just as many other things foreigners are a burden, but they pretend that they wecome them if they bring enough money in.. But the foreigners know , so......

In the UK it may be possible, under the right circumstances. Not sure how long it would last, but would depend on the job or business,

Yes, Thais can go to the UK or USA and get a work permit for an unskilled job (just look at the residential homes for the elderly in the UK, without Thais and other foreign nationals they'd have no staff.) The issue here is that only skilled labourers are allowed to work here whilst the unskilled Thais can go to our countries and get WP's and jobs.

I saw a teacher (I think british). He quit his teaching job in Thailand and just does youtube now.

His work permit was surely connected to his teaching job. Now how does he stay in Thailand and he survives with his youtube channel, surely not having any work permit for this and taxes???

People just seem oblivious to how the employment system works all over the world. It is pretty much the same all over. 

 

In the US, to work you need a H1B1 visa which is only given to those with sponsorships and in skilled positions. The other way is to become a permanent resident and then you can work anywhere you want.

 

Sure there are many illegals working. However, if you get caught, you get deported. If you are working without a working permit, you get deported.

@vandeventer so you wanna put foreign people who are teaching here out of work? if you're retired stay retired.     you've done your bit, leave the work to people who still need to earn money.   just cuz you don't need the money, that's a pretty selfish way of thinking.

They are not excluded, any more than foreigners here are excluded.  They have to apply for a work permit, or be a dependent with an appropriate visa/leave to remain ,  or a student on certain courses and /or have specific skills that the UK needs.  Oh wait, just like Thailand. All those youtubers, it's obvious what they do and it's not to report about your holidays, it's about where they live and a few of them make decent money.
