I have a Russian Guest who has just cut short his stay with us and intended to go to Czechoslovakia to start a new job in IT.  The Czechs now do not want him!  Sadly he is one of the respectful and nice Russians.  I also have a Ukrainian who worked in Thailand online, but sadly his business has collapsed.  He is a retired paratrooper and wants to go back and fight, but understandably his Wife would like him to stay put!  A dreadful, dreadful mess all due to the stupidity of a madman, who hasn't got the first idea of tactics or resupply.

So easy to tar everyone with the same brush....there must be, as you say, nice, pleasant Russians who are also totally anti-Putin.....musn't there?

Damn! More than 200 'baskets' for Thailand's (tourism) eggs, and they had to put them mostly into only two of them; the Chinese and Russian ones. And both are currently a 'no go'...

I’ve just left Kata Phuket. They were getting less visible in the last week. They have no respect for anyone, pushing their way into queues , not wearing masks. Being rude. Obviously not all, but most. The Russian restaurant was doing well with Russians even queuing outside to get in. They didn’t look a happy lot at all ! Huddled together . Money problems ? I doubt they have roubles , probably dollars when they travel. Flight problems probably. They won’t be back for a while, they’ll be too broke. Phuket airport looked a bit empty yesterday and so did Suvarnabhumi domestic.

Yes there are.

 

Last time I was in Suvannakhet we met a young Russian couple, with pretty good English. We ended up having a bite to eat with them in the evening. They were totally embarrassed by the antics of some of their countrymen here and when the subject of Putin came up they just rolled their eyes and told us that in their opinion he was a dangerous mad man.

 

I didn't think much about this at the time but now their words have really proven to be true. 

 

All in all a very sad state of affairs. Hoped I'd never see anything like this in Europe again.

Not all the Russian peoples fault to be sure, but I agree with all the sanctions. Putins a nutter alright and needs to be stopped.

So sad. I remember when the wall came down, and silly Vodka loving Yeltsin came in and Russia seemed to be eager (ad excitedly welcomed by western Europe) ... opening like a flower, to not being 'the strange East' but join their place as a major part of the European continent and become a great democratic socialist country.

Then Putin got the reins and within a few years it began. The paranoid walking back into an isolationist ultra-nationalist 'us and them' the craving for ultimate power and the neo- Soviet Union/Czarist empire burst forth from Putins sick and diseased mind.

The old paradigm of a powerful despotic leader was inflicted once again upon 130 million Slavic people.

The avenues of integration and participation slowly ground to a halt. Then came the expansionist, paranoid, projection driven wars in Afghanistan, Chechnya, the annexations (exactly under the same false narratives of 'liberating and rescuing real true slavic people from their monster oppressors'). Then Syria, the pointy bully poking at Turkey, The Crimea, and two parts of Ukraine without much but a whimper from anybody.

Now all we westerners got to do is adopt the same level of Russia scrutiny and moral high ground to our self-scrutiny and ownership of the indiscriminate nation deposing / creating BS we have done and the world will be a much nicer place to live in.

I rather enjoy observing the Russians in Thailand. They bring their children and dress well. The Russian women put the Thai ladies to shame as far as beauty goes. I feel sorry for them as their leader is a tyrant. But almost all leaders of Russia have been tyrants, so this is their fate.

Everyone has a say.

It's called guts and civil disobedience.

If the Russian people are prepared to stand by and let a genocide take place in their country's name then they are as guilty as their bloodstained thug of a President.

The tourists at least can return home (to an upside-down economy) but those working or retired in Thailand will have a lot of problems.

Most people are quite naive, they think it is all fault of Putin, the madman is a product of russian people, even now 90 percent of them totally support him and war in Ukraine. They have been tolerating him all time, during the demonstrations they did not fight him, but when russian police beat them they were standing aside taking pictures instead of fighting the police. iF Putin dies for example today, they will elect the same or worse guy, if not in the next election, but for sure in other elections, russians do not have freedom mentality, their mentality is a mentality of the slaves. Just look at their history. They cannot live without a big ruler or big chief without standing on their knees in front of him. You can see 1000 videos as russian appealed to putin fell down on their knees begging him to help in solving some problem. And yes there are good freedom thinking russians, probably 5% of the population, and most of them are in prison or abroad.
