MP Rangsiman Rome, of Thailand’s Move Forward Party, is now the subject of an arrest warrant after twice failing to report to police in the past month, in response to official summonses. The summonses were issued in relation to a criminal defamation charge, following claims he made during a censure debate in Parliament in 2020 targeting Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan.

The embattled MP said that he will meet with the police today (Friday), while insisting that the arrest warrant is“illegitimate”.

Rangsiman also threatened to take legal action against the police for malfeasance and claimed that there is a plot to put him behind bars and remove him from Parliament as a consequence of his controversial censure debate speeches.

Normal action by Prayout and his gang to try and lock up any opposition, leaves out of the global juntas guide book, if you can't beat them lock 'em up to shut them up.

A court? Any court? Or just a Thai court?

Thai Court of course....... That is the only thing that counts....

that censure debate was over a year ago. He was prevented from speaking at this debate, because Pheu Thai party used all time allocated to opposition, to stop him attack Prawit (taksin has a deal with Prawit to topple prayuth and allow taksin to come back)

So he staged his speech outside of the parliament.

why criminal defamation is used after such long time?

who brought it and when?

By prawit himself? by public prosecutor?

his background is here

Only a Thai Court as we know from teh case of the drug dealer who was not only allowed to remain an MP but also a minister.  Some wonder if at month end trays came round for all officials with the usual brown envelopes but also little white packets.  I couldn't possibly comment.

His "crime" was exposing the Elephant Ticket Police Promotion Corruption scandal.

In the old days he would have been disappeared.

And he'd be wise to avoid police custody where the last thing he might see is the inside of a plastic bag, or the pavement after he was defenestrated.

Thai "democracy" at it's finest; Arrest, detain and jail opponents.

Almost reflective of how democracy is practiced the world over.
