Popular Post snoop1130
A staff holds a cannabis plant at the Government Pharmaceuticals Organisation (GPO) medicinal marijuana greenhouse outside Chon Buri, south of Bangkok on October 8, 2020. (Photo by Mladen ANTONOV / AFP) The Royal Thai Police has been asked to educate its officers across the country about the new legal status of cannabis and hemp, following the arrests of two elderly women growing the plant. A ministerial announcement conditionally removing cannabis and hemp from the banned narcotics list was made in February but has not yet become effective. Recreational use of cannabis, however, remains banned as extracts from cannabis which contain more than 0.2% of THC per its weight are not removed from the list. Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said today (Friday) that there is widespread confusion, among police and the public, about the new legal status of cannabis, hemp and extracts from cannabis during the transition period until the change of status becomes effective on June 8th. Popular Post spidermike007
Where is the confusion? Ganga is still illegal. Asking the RTP to give up the massive income stream from arrests, and threats of arrests, is like asking Chang to lower it's beer prices. It is like asking the Highway patrol to actually patrol the highways, and pull people over for reckless driving. It is like asking this administration to consider the welfare of the people, over money and power. It just will not happen. Not until they man up and realize that alcohol is 50x more dangerous, and destructive to society than pot, and legalize it's recreational use. The confusion comes when desperado publicity hounds like Anutin continue lying, and creating false impressions, when nothing has really changed. Popular Post Damrongsak
Why can they not get this all done and dusted in a flash? Still bickering about who gets a monopoly or a decent cut of the big bucks they will reap from being ganja dealers? Who gives a <deleted> about weed, which has been around forever? Just those who hope to profit from regulations. 2

Everything that is wrong within the RTP is declared in this one sentence, which should read: The Royal Thai Police has been asked ordered to educate its officers ............ Failure to do so will result in their immediate dismissal!

Hmm? But nothing unusual, because Thais are utterly unable to think things through. They come up with an idea and that's it, with no thought at all given to any possible consequences, reactions, effects. We see it every day with the way people drive or ride any vehicle. I'll speed/overtake on a bend/pull out of a side road without looking to see if it's safe/ride in the bed of a pickup/ride in a motorcycle sidecar etc etc etc.

Spot on if you expect the rule of law equally applied. I don't see that as a stated objective in Thailand. Unmet, unshared expectations are a source of suffering. Popular Post Dionigi
Yesterdays media said that the plants had flower buds, that makes them illegal under the law as stands. The only thing that needs education is how to react when they get bad press. Just legalize the stuff.
mtls2005
I mean, in all honesty, it was silly to remove Cannabis from the level 5 category BEFORE passing the associated law(s), and publicizing it BEFORE (120 days) it came into law. There is a lengthy draft of the proposed law floating around, but I haven't seen nor heard about much debate or parliamentary progress. That law needs to promulgated before June 1, I think, as this is required in the decree already gazetted. But thai law is fluid so who knows.

Couldn't agree more, you could chain smoke hemp all day, the only thing you'd get is a headache and a cough, wouldn't get a fly high. they should stop using especially the name Marijuana (a completely different strain), and even Cannabis, just call it what is, HEMP. 2
