BANGKOK (NNT) - The Government Lottery Office (GLO) has announced new product lines to be released next year.

The announcement was made by Dr Thanawat Polvichai, board member and spokesperson for the GLO. He added that the office will hold public hearings on the matter sometime in the later half of this year, after the administration declares COVID-19 an endemic disease.

According to the GLO spokesperson, these products include prizes for two and three digits, whose tickets will sport new designs based on the 12 zodiac signs. Once the GLO finishes gathering public input, it will propose the production plan to the Cabinet for consideration.

Dr Thanawat reiterated that the GLO must follow regulations in releasing the new product lines, while assuring that the move will help alleviate the issue of overpriced tickets due to an increased number of available products.

According to local media, the introduction of the new tickets was the culmination of multiple studies from several universities. In the studies, the authors cited similar schemes implemented in 2003 that effectively suppressed illegal lottery operations and prevented regular tickets from exceeding their original 80 baht price tag.

Ok.  So allegedly the lottery was fixed in 2003.  So explain what happened between then and now.

A few years back they said they were fixing it so that vendors wouldn't be able to make and sell sets.  How did that work out?

It sounds like they will introduce another separate lottery product.  So then we will have 2 games being sold for more than ticket value.

Oh really!!

During my 20 years of living in rural Northern Thailand, it was the local "village" lotteries that were the most popular because out in the sticks you could not buy an official ticket unless you travelled into town which often meant a long journey!! Also the "village" lottery offered far better odds and ways of winning for whatever amount you wanted to bet - no fixed price!!. For example, I won two amounts of 30,000 Baht with bets of 100 Baht each on a selection of the 3 numbers turning up like 128, 581 etc.

Winning seems to be restricted to Thais only; we buy the same number of tickets, from the same vendors, but my wife has won 3 times this year, I've won nothing.  ????

Nonsense.  How can that be the case when there is no registration of purchased tickets until a claim is made?
