I only wish to stay 2 months this time within the 2 months TR Visa.  Not intending to stay longer.  Hopefully with ease of restrictions, i want to enjoy a proper time in Thailand before going back to hands on deck work

So does anyone have a reasonable thing to say to immigration why i want to come back so soon considering i was there for 14 months.  My only intention is to enjoy the ease of resitrictions.  I overstayed as i had acute appendictius and was in a rush to go back.

i think you just gave the answer... why dont you just tell them as you said: 'My only intention is to enjoy the ease of restrictions and want to enjoy thailand better' ??

Your idea of coming into Chiang Mai with an actual tourist visa is about the safest approach I can think of. The main danger is if you decide to risk a visa exempt entry.

I don't need to work, I have assets, cash and income from abroad that support me. I invested in condos here before their scheme for visa was up and running.

Yes, I think you will have to get another Elite visa if you want to stay in Thailand long term .

   There isnt a "I spend a lot of money" visa , so it will have to be an Elite visa

Defo tourist visa, cash, hotel booked and flight out as back up. Having the overstay isn’t great. If asked, say you were stuck before because of covid and need more time to enjoy the temples now the place is opening up. Serious.

Done SIN CNX loads of times in the last 10 years on Tourist Visas and never a hassle. I did the reverse trip last week. Watched the incoming passengers disembark, met by the hazmat crowd. It is the only international flight so immigration wont be packed

Technically you can't, the requirement is to carry the cash equivalent.

 

Obviously that doesn't mean that you won't find stories of people being allowed to show a bank account balance or being escorted to an ATM, but there's no guarantee that this inconsistency in enforcement will work in your favor, if you're unlucky enough that you will be asked to show cash.

 

Personally, with your history, I'd definitely have plenty of cash on me to show them if asked. I'd actually avoid mentioning Thai bank accounts or drawing their attention to it.

You misunderstood me. I have never even had a tourist visa in all my 14 years. I may have had 1 actually 13 years ago or so.

 

Anyway, I understand visa purposes, I just wish there were more suitable options for people like me that have their income from abroad and are below 50. I am going on another ED visa right now, which is fine. My Thai skills are already decent but I guess I'll focus on learning to write and read this time. It may be productive in the end.

 

I have opened and invested in a couple of businesses in the past here. They didn't work unfortunately and I am not looking forward to go through it again. I'll stick with what I have in my home country to sustain myself.

 

I wrote it in another thread, I wish people below 50 could obtain long term visas with similar terms as for retirements extensions. Elite visa, although suitable for some, doesn't interest me anymore.

Having now got my TR Visa and Thai Pass.  I have now over 20k Bhat equivalent in cash ready too.  Now, for onward ticket, does this have to be back to my original destination or can i buy a cheap ticket to Vietnam and show that ?

You have a tourist visa?

Onward flight not required for airline.

Also not required at Thai passport control on arrival.

As stated you won't need to show onward flight.

With a tourist visa I would be staggered if you had issue to enter Thailand.

Pre covid I exited los a lot for years (every month).

Only personally seen few guys questioned.

From that, my impression is answer with outlined  planned itinerary. 

Sorta like you have set plans even if it's rubbish.

My guess was the few I've seen questioned were entering visa exempt.

Most SEA countries do allow ongoing stays. 

What's the issue.

Many folk live in Asia as outlined in my post couple above

Don't understand any of that.

 

"Genuine Tourist" love that term.

Please provide definition, which I guess will be to do with number of days per year in Thailand. 

Again no such rule exists. 

 

Pre covid with very cheap flights to places such as Saigon it was very easy to exit and obtain tourist visa or reentry visa exempt..

 

Again since Thailand does not have any limit on visa exempt entry via air, they are opening can of worms.

Ridiculous rules for entry. Particularly as I just outlined in previous post.
