MG called me today and said they had multiple new quotes for me, the best was Viriyah, 3rd year insurance on MG4 X-model was 29,000 THB with a 1,000 THB discount so I paid 28,000 THB.

600,000 baht cover and up to 5 named drivers of any age.

BTW, I got the mileage wrong, it's done almost 23,000 km.

It seems all electric cars are 28-30,000 THB which I think is excessive.

MG's carrier, I guess V, was in the 20+k range after the 1st year's free coverage,  to renew the ZS.  Wife's cousin, independent ins broker, who we always used for the ICEVs, was 22k, and Roojai was 9.4k, I think, so yea, went with them.

Renewed again with them (Oct), at 13.4k, as everyone else was in the 20+k range.  I think Roojai realized how underpriced they were the previous year.  Or just following the trend of overcharging BEV owners 🙄

Give them, Roojai a  chance to recoup some of that money for our oops (235k ?), that they did an excellent job handling, along with MG's repair & body shop, here locally.  Our local dealer is apparently this region's body repair shop, as the oops was at Hua Hin.  We're 100 kms south of HH.

👍👍  for for Roojai customer claim service.

This does not surprise me at all about BYD, or maybe specifically Rever Automotive.

I still cannot understand why BYD Thailand charges so much for maintenance of a BEV.
Why every 40k km instead of 80k km a gear oil change?
Compare this to MG, GWM ORA, Riddara with reasonable maintenance frequencies and prices.

Thanks for sharing!

That's not cheap for an EV car, still a lot cheaper than a Gas car.

They are charging 1,152B for a simple air filter, you should be able to soon buy it yourself for less than 200 baht and save 8,000 baht out of that 32,000 baht,  bring the cost down to 24,000 Baht for 8 years. That is a LOT better no?

We swap out the air filter before taking it in for a check up.  Bought online for 288 baht from MG on Shopee

Not showing now, as I think they realized they are losing money by making it available.

Too easy to swap, one screw to gain access, as it's being the glove box.  Paying whatever the first time 1800 ?, just silly.

Fool me once ... 2nd time it's on me ... NO THANKS  For 1500 baht, I can turn a screw and swap it out.

I used to be a fan of Roojai, but I'm not happy with their customer loyalty.

They talk of 20%, 30% and 40% No Claims Bonuses, but they don't exist.

They won't cover my daughters till they are 25 and I think they won't cover me after 70 years old too.

They won't insure my BYD Seal Performance, but a Premium or Dynamic would be ok.

Cars they used to cover, have disappeared from their list.

Yes, jacking the price up for less write off value, took away a bit of their shine.

Still the cheapest, more than half, that we could find, and the 'oops' service was excellent.

One of the conditions of the MG battery lifetime warranty is that you don’t fit aftermarket parts.

I too have an MG4 air filter but I won’t be using it, the dealer can have their 621 baht to fit it.

Still have the original, from the first replacement, and that only goes back in for the check ups.  Then swapped out with online MG filter, although the online one has a different serial #, and maybe the one for MG4 or the VS, but fits all.

We just vacuum the dog hairs & dust off the 'used' one, and replace after the check up.  Still cleans the air and good AQI #s when checking.

Been doing my own Air filter and other non-voiding warrant parts for all cars I owned, saved a lot money on that because dealers (toyota, honda, byd) all want at least 3x for simple things like an Air filter.

Warranty cannot be voided by just an air filter, but the trick you did is really smart!

Toyota always wanted to take my money with necessary fixes, such as batteries, cabin cleaning, tires, etc. I never bulge.

Toyota asked 29,900 for a set of tires (Michelin 265/50R20), I got in Lazada the newer "Dunlop PT5" for 17,000 Baht, I really love them and definitely better than the originals "Dunlop PT3A". I also changed battery by myself 1 year later and saved another 1500 baht, used same model, they dont even know I changed without a close look.

I always think Dealer service are for those who just dont care about the money or can't do themself.

Not complaining about Toyota service, I still think it's one of the best here.

Far better than BYD, which has been a complete joke for the last 2 years.

interesting method of paying your dealers

NETA Auto Thailand has poured into dealers, and has also paid incentives to dealers in the form of cars instead of money .

https://www.thansettakij.com/motor/ev/615438

The worse car anyone could buy is a NETA, not considering that other tiny 2 person EV "car".

The car is really terrible in almost all aspects.

I managed to get 24,000 on BYD Atto 3 for only 800,000 coverage.

if next year they increase too much I'm just not going to do it.

Who was your insurance with? And which broker? I’m sure it will be useful information for other people here.

Tokyo Marine, 3rd year renewal, first year was free from BYD, second year less than 20,000, 3rd year, they bumped to 24,000B.

only 1 tiny claim that didn't cost more than 3000-4000B to replace just one rear plastic bumper from a motorcycle Hit and Run, had to go to police to get a report before it could be claimed.

If next year it's too much, I will look for something 2nd class.

Viriyah has a 8,600 Baht 2nd class coverage that seems not too bad.

The insurance companies here are a strange beast...

I recall claiming for a rock damaged windscreen....    (the cost was relatively high at 50,000 baht and it had to be imported from the UK)...   subsequently my insurance premiums increased quite a lot.

I just changed insurance company to another reputable firm who's quote was in line the premiums I'd paid the previous year.

Have you actually test driven one ?  Low specs, but comes with low price, although competition has lowered there price of late.

If someone is budget restricted, or just needs something to knock around town in, I'm not seeing the negativity of the Neta.  Looks nice, but I've never sat in or drove one.

I'm pretty sure I'd take the Neta over any lower end entry level, 3 or 4 cyl. 'made in TH' JP badged car, which most start at 600+k, for AT.

Owned Vios & Mazda 2, and certainly wouldn't buy or recommend to anyone for 100k baht more.  Along with buying petrol, and other operating costs in the future.

The thing is, if Neta withdraws from Thai market, you have no more maintenance and spare parts supply. See what happened with KTM for two wheelers.

Another what if scenario.  If concerned, spend the 100k baht, and buy MG or BYD.

Same scenario for Chevy owners, but not a problem, as will be serviced.   Same probably for Suzuki, as they'll be stopping production in TH, but will still be serviced.

What if .... :cheesy:

Toyota and VW shutting production factories in a few places.  YES ... WHAT IF .... :coffee1:

NEW MG4 ELECTRIC receives Made in Thailand standard, the first model in Thailand.

SAIC Motor-CP Co., Ltd. and MG Sales (Thailand) Co., Ltd., the manufacturer and distributor of MG cars in Thailand (MG), have set a new standard for the Thai automotive industry with the company's NEW MG4 ELECTRIC electric car receiving the "Made in Thailand (MiT)" certification, making it the first company in Thailand to receive the certification in the electric car category.

And one more thing.  An OBD2 adapter is only half of the team...the other team member is the OBD2 app you use to connect to/interface with the adapter.....then this team can communicate with the car.   And for the app and adapter to communicate with each other (and the car) the app has to have a specific "Connection Profile File" which is a fancy name for a device driver....a driver that will properly communicate with the adapter "and car."     That Connection Profile File is VERY important.

The Car Scanner app talked earlier than LOTS of Connection Profile Files (i.e., drivers) for many different brands/models of cars...to include EVs.  Below are a couple of snapshots of the Connection Profile File choices for BYD and MG cars.

For BYD Vehicles

Yes, it does....but it's invalid for BYD vehicles.   See below earlier post.

Wow, what a bargain for a car that drives well!  The MG 4 D for 599k baht. You can order any color now.

Fast charging is as fast/slow as Atto 3. For the price can't complain about the boot space, the spartan interior, speakers and infotainment system.

Does anyone own the 49/51 kwh model? How is the experience on long road trips like Bangkok to Chiang Mai?

I'll check if my local MG dealer wants to rent this car for a few days and see how convenient road tripping is.

My daughter has the X model, standard range. I drove it for 9 months too, it’s a fantastic car.

Realistic range is about 350km.

She commutes short distances every day and does 180km journey between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai about 15 times a year.

Just a shame about the much higher insurance costs compared to a 599k ICE car.

Keep in mind that the D model barely has any extras, who are normal for new cars these days. No parking cameras, no lane keep or adaptive cruise control, no emergency braking, if I remember correctly also no android auto or apple car play.

For me it was a no brainer to pay up more 100k and get the X model.

Own it since a bit over a year and very happy with it.

I expect the prices (both for D and X model to drop further this year because MG has announced new models to replace the MG4 and also the outdated MG ZS and MG station wagon

I haven't seen any annoucements that the MG4 is being replaced I have seen there might be a MG4 estate version in the future

It makes sense to phase out MG ZS EV and MG EP and MG ES as those cars are built from the old platform

where MG4 is built on newer platform

I was playing around with insurance quotes on the MG 4 on Roojai and it seems the older the car, the more expensive the insurance premiums by a significant amount.

2022 models are the most expensive and 2024 models the cheapest to insure.
