Wasn't the Seal Performance originally THB 1.6 million when launched? 999K is an insane level of discounting. More grist to the mill for my view that - for the time being  - a second hand EV is well worth considering over anything new.

Officially it still is, they never changed the price. I guess that way their special offers sounds more enticing:

DLT released September registration stats a few days ago....below is BYD registrations for Jan-Sep 2025.  For September the Dolphin and Atto were BYD's biggest sellers.   The top row of numbers is just the sum of all BYD models for each month.

I went to look at MG4 but I have range anxiety and I didn't even buy one. For me a trip to a big city would be 160km one way and it is hilly. Will I get back and still be able stay at the same hotel as usual.

Here are DLT registration stats  Jan-Sep 2025 for ORA models.  Seems to have fairly steady registrations from month to month.  The top row of numbers is just the sum of all ORA models for each month.

My daughter has the MG4 and can drive between Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai and still have 35% battery left.

It’s 180km and very hilly.

Many hotels have AC overnight charging, your regular Hotel may have it, try asking them. Alternatively, stop somewhere like a PTT and top up the car for 10 minutes.

Regarding the video about why the Seal is discounted, I thought it was a big nothingburger.

BYD have been clear that they want rid of current spec (MY2023) cars.

The big questions are…

Is there a new Seal coming?

What is its spec?

and,

How much will it be?

I don’t think we’re getting the latest Chinese spec, I suspect it’s a middle spec.

As for pricing, I’m sure the AWD Performance won’t be 999k.  I suspect it might start similar to the Sealion 7 AWD.

If the 'new Seal' is like the 'new Atto' then I imagine the only spec changes will be cosmetic and won't see, say, a bigger battery with higher capacity and faster charging etc.

It's all interesting to watch, though: Chinese EV manufacturers as market disruptors, bringing in the concept of 'clearance sale' for models that are current, and for a firm that's not leaving the market. Makes insurers very nervous, too: if the 'old model' Seal is now 999K new, what happens to coverage for all existing owners who paid THB 1.6M, the vast majority of whom will still be on the hook for finance payments for another year or so ....

Only time I can recall such massive discounting was when Chevrolet bailed from Thailand and sold Captiva etc at half-price.

I'm expecting the new Seal to be a similar spec to Sealion 7.

Faster charging, revised dashboard, different wheels.

I'll be surprised if its the new one with LIDAR etc.

I'll be annoyed if the new performance one comes in at 999k

I think the Sealion 7 is selling much better than the Seal.

Yes, the SL7 is selling much better than the Seal as shown a few posts up in 2025 DLT registration stats.

But I think probably the major reason for that is it's a SUV vs a sedan with both having similar specs---SUVs are more popular than sedans in many countries due to its extra utility in carrying stuff....and maybe simply because of the looks.

And one spec that carries a lot of weight with many people is "road clearance" due to road flooding, steep driveway ramps, etc.,....the SL7 has 157mm unladen clearance and the Seal 120mm unladen clearance....those extra millimeters can make a big difference on some roads in certain situations....plus, how easy or hard it is for person to enter/exit the car.

Personally i think the Seal is the better looking car but agree with all the rest.

Wish someone would design the “ seat greeting “ to go up and down as well as backwards and forwards !

We have another home and wallbox charger in Chiang Mai, so it doesn't apply to us.

If not, she would indeed have to stop for no more than 10 minutes on the way back.  There are 3 high speed chargers between Chiang Rai and Chiang Mai.  She always stops for a comfort break anyway and let the dogs do what's necessary.

When I go, I usually stop for a coffee too but my Seal will go there and back without needing to charge.

I agree, I love the look of the Seal.

Oh,, don't get me wrong....the Seal is a great looking sedan.  It's just a SUV/hatchback type style with decent ground clearance is now my (and many others) preferred style.

Up until around 20 years ago I always bought a sedan as my primary vehicle with a small pickup truck or motorcycle as my second  vehicle.   But I now prefer SUV/hatchback vehicles due to their utility, ground clearance, and they look good.  Maybe not having the external beauty of a sports sedan like a Seal but still good looking with a personality that better suits me.

For me, beauty is very important.

I don’t like most SUV’s because I think they are ugly.

I think 2 notable exceptions are the SL7 and Porsche’s Macan and Cayenne.

i chose the byd sl7 awd because byd has a service center near where i live ...

the exterior design of the sl7 is not really my thing, but i like the interior and

the lfp battery and of course the prerformance ...

i’ve always liked the design of genesis suv's, as well as zekkr and a few others ...

SUV is practical for me also.   In past, always had a pick up & MC to go with whatever car (s) having at the time.

Here, TH, just the SUV, as need the extra cargo area for O&A.   Also don't slide into a sedan like I use to, so they're out.  Not really a 'show / looks' kind of shopper, as long as not ugly, and prefer unique over same same.   A plus with our MG ZS, and fronT looks different than every other SUV.

Thinking about that the other day, and realized that was a thing with my past cars owned in the USA.

... VW Van

... 1950 Buick bought 1975

... Buick Special SW w/glass roof

... Nissan Maxima

... Monte Carlo

... older Coup (Cadillac)

... older F150, all probably because I didn't buy new cars

For flooding risks, the ground clearance is what matters, but for drive ways and ramps, ground clearance is really not nearly as important as approach angles, and sedans suck on that aspect. This morning we picked up a Bimmer SUV from a friends house and I figured I leave our car in their carport for a few hours - except, the steep drive way made it impossible to get into their carport with the Seal.

Thailand is not a sedan country - its made for pick-up trucks. Since most of us aren't into hillbilly conveyance, the SUV rules.

Actually, 3 months in a row....Jul, Aug, and Sep.    But on an annual basis I expect come 31 Dec the MG4 will finish a strong second to the Dolphin.  The Dolphin sure has been a hit for BYD.

Just for comparison of the "Top Selling BEVs" (i.e., 100% electric) models for 2023, 2024, and so far in 2025.   The top models have total registrations of "at least 1,000 each year" are shown below....and before 2025 is over a few more models will top 1,000 for 2025.

And notice how the number of models having at least 1,000 registrations per year has "doubled" in 2025 compared to 2022/2023.

Total BEV (100% electric) vehicles registered for Jan-Sep 2025 with at least 1,000 registrations

This latest upgrade, by BYD, will focus on the powertrain, with the new Atto 3 switching to a TZ200XYC permanent magnet electric motor , the same one found in its bigger siblings, the Seal EV and Denza N7 electric cars. This results in a maximum output of 230 kW (308 hp) , or 107 hp more than the current model.

With the use of this new electric motor, the facelifted Atto 3 is expected to feature the same 800V high-voltage system as the Seal EV. This will allow it to support DC fast charging of up to 150 kW , almost double that of the current model, addressing a key weakness in charging speed.

As an Atto owner for two years now above will be nice upgrades although the current Atto has plenty of power right now IMO--even in ECO mode when needing to quickly pass another vehicle and when going to Sport mode you can feel some G-forces during acceleration....BEVs just have excellent get-up-and-go!   The higher DC charging rate will be good especially for those who can't charge at home or can only use a portable/low power AC charge at home.  And yea, it will be nice to be able to charge faster when on a long road trip and wanting to spend the absolute minimum time at a charging station---you know for those folks who have 10 gallon bladders and/or travelers who don't want to stop every hour or two to feed their face....not in a super hurry to get to the end point.

This reminds me I need to give a 2 year/50K kilometer report on my Atto....I'm less than two weeks away from having owned my Atto for 2 years and I'm already put a little more than 50K kilometers on it....I'll try to do that report over the coming week or so...but right now the wife and I are heading out on a 150km road trip.

Also not seeing the need for more speed (hp/torque) and we drive exclusively in 'ECO'.    Faster charging would be nice, as ZS is limited to 76kWh, but not sure how much time that would actually cut off our CS top ups, as we don't eat that fast.

I thought we racked up the kms, but took us 3 yrs (come 30 Oct) to get to 51k kms.  Got 2 doctor appts (wife & dog), or we'd be racking up a few more.  Instead of being O&A this month, kind of home bound.  Like traveling before tourist & smog season hits.

"While no further details are available, the facelifted BYD Atto 3 is expected to launch in the Chinese market later this year, bolstering its competitiveness against rivals in the fiercely competitive electric vehicle market."

What launches in China is rarely available in Thailand...the Thai versions are usually old tech 1-2 years behind.

The BYD Seal in China has had 800V architecture for a long time already but it's still not available here.

Pretty disturbing news about Jaecoo.

Back in August I drove my mate to Roi Et to see the Jaecoo 5 EV. He put down a deposit on the Long Range max model in the green colour shown in the post above. We were told he could pick the car up tomorrow, but yesterday he was told that they had in fact sold his car to another customer. They hoped to get a replacement car for him "soon"

Currently no more information but I will post when I hear more.

While we are talking about the Jacoo E5 EV, it has just launched in the UK and they are raving about how cheap it is.

£27,500 might be "cheap" in the UK but in Thailand they start from £12,500!
