Justice minister orders action after Thai prison food turns out to be rotten

I thought it was well documented that Thai prison food was supposed to be atrocious.

Fish head soup and boiled rice once a day etc.

I've always been led to believed it is down to the families of the inmates to provide nourishing food for their loved ones to eat.

It appeared that some authorities were creaming money off the top.

Somsak said that action would be taken against those responsible.

He instructed the head of the corrections department to crack down saying that relatives of inmates expect them to be given decent food.

Another internal investigation going no-where...

Thailand is rotten to the core... Pun intended.

If this guy seriously goes after corrupt officials and suppliers who organised these rotten meals, I might not mind if they get served the same food while behind the bars.

... and it also seems that the right proportion of the cream had not been sent upstairs.

Does he mean those that conducted the survey in secret?

The latest Corruption Perception Index (2021) places Thailand at the 110th position of the 180 countries evaluated.  It has been in a steady decline since 2014.  TIT

found that chicken, pork and vegetables given to inmates were rotten.

Definitely another reason to stay on the straight and arrow.

Having an ex-wife serve many years, you are correct.

I didn't like her but I paid for food and clean water as a basic need for years.

My housekeeper used to make a monthly pilgrimage to the prison to arrange this

The family can order and pay for extra food and water to keep a prisoner alive, and guess who controls the catering that supplies the food?

Big money maker for the warden and his family, and surprise, the worse the government supplied food the more demand for the paid for food is.

With the corruption going on at every level, I wonder how many innocent inmates are incarcerated because of a crime they did not commit? Or because of a bribe they did not pay to some law enforcement scam? To add insult to injury they eat rotten food supplied by gov't officials who skim off the top! It's pathetic.

Right on point.  PATHETIC.

Probably moved to another prison with training to ensure that they do not get caught again.

I think he would know how much time his wife spends in the dunny.

He knows nothing about the quality of Thai food in general or that in food stalls though. I and many others have been eating this for decades and never had a problem.

Don't think he or his wife is a doctor too, so better visit one to see what the real problem is.

With all the hilarious fanfare this week about Michelin star restaurants up here in Isaan, surely they should be tapping these chefs up to provide a silver service to the inmates...
