Most people in Thailand may no longer be required to wear a face mask from the middle of next month, the permanent secretary for public health said on Tuesday (May 24).

Only people with underlying illnesses, the elderly or pregnant women will be required to wear face masks when out in public, Dr Kiattiphum Wongrajit told Thai language media during a visit to Surat Thani.

However, while it won’t be enforced, the Ministry of Public Health will still recommend people wear face masks if they are infected with COVID-19 or in a ‘high risk’ group, if they are in a poorly ventilated space or if they are in a crowded place.

Dr Kiattiphum said the COVID-19 situation in Thailand was improving much faster than initially predicted, and that the country was on track to declare the disease an endemic.

Dr. Kiatpoom Wongrachit, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), announced this afternoon, May 24th, 2022, that the MOPH is planning to propose to the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration or CCSA to end mask mandates in most situations across Thailand by mid June.

So that'll be September then?

Probably this is going to be stores with AC (especially 7-11) and your typical Thai market where they setup stalls so you're pinned shoulder to shoulder.

If the masks actually worked why didn't they just have the at risk risk groups wear them in the first place? It's chilling to think how many kids have had their brains warped by spending their first 2 years of life not seeing anyones face in public.

Because that wouldn't work! Transmission can occur through lower risk groups. Many adults already have their brains warped. A bit of a Monday morning quarterback post.
