The vice president made the gun control remarks after speaking at the funeral of an 86-year-old woman killed in the Buffalo shooting

Vice President Kamala Harris called for a ban on "assault weapons" on Saturday after she spoke at the funeral of a woman killed in the Buffalo, New York grocery store mass shooting earlier this month.

She called the firearm a "weapon of war" that has "no place in civil society."

"We are not sitting around waiting to figure out what the solution looks like. You know, we're not looking for a vaccine. We know what works on this," she told reporters outside of Air Force Two at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport, referring to the series of mass shootings that have plagued the U.S. "Let's have an assault weapons ban."

Biden arrives in Uvalde to meet families of victims from devastating school shooting

(CNN) President Joe Biden on Sunday faces the grimly familiar task of comforting families after another mass shooting, this time at an elementary school in Texas, as a weary nation grapples with an endless spate of gun violence.

Biden and first lady Jill Biden arrived mid-morning Sunday in Uvalde, Texas, where a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers last week. Their armored black limousine arrived to a makeshift memorial outside Robb Elementary School around 11:15 a.m. Central Time, pulling to a stop next to the sea of flowers, stuffed animals and photos that has grown since the day of the massacre.

The first lady carried a large bouquet of white roses to place in front of the brick Robb Elementary School sign. The Bidens, both dressed in somber black, stood quietly for a moment and the President made a sign of the cross.

US Senator Dianne Feinstein introduced federal legislation earlier this month — less than a week before the Uvalde shooting — that would raise the minimum age to purchase assault weapons to 21 from 18; the California Democrat said in a statement that it was in response to a shooting that killed 10 people at a Buffalo supermarket. That gunman also was 18 years old

They don't. People kill people, guns make it easier.

No, guns operated by people kill people.

While that's self evidently true, that talking point plays into the hands of the gun lobby who like to point out that any blunt, sharp, soft, hard object of any description can kill people so guns shouldn't be blamed. People would simply kill less people but for the use of guns optimised for killing people rather than sport or hunting.

At which guns were banned during his appearance.

The coward thinks it's fine for other people to have guns everywhere but when it comes time to walk the walk... not so much.

So Trump goes to the NRA convention where apparently guns are banned, but Biden goes with a platoon of armed to the gills secret service agents, armed drones and choppers on standby and generally enough artillery to overtake a small country to deliver his message that guns are bad. And you say this shows Trump(who I must point out, is not currently POTUS) is the hypocrite?? Genuinely confused by the illogical argument being floated.

You do realise that Trump has a platoon of armed to the gills security guards everywhere he goes for life paid for by the government?

And Trump is trying to ban the common folk from having weapons to protect themselves and their families while being protected by a gang of armed to the teeth agents? No, no he is not. Trump, as always, is consistent and not a hypocrite.

Politicians  need protection because there's probably some loony who wants to kill them , high profile people need protection .

If none of the public had guns, then no one would need guns .

Its quite understandable that Trump wants to ban weapons and also have an armed guard himself , because the normal guy in the street isnt going to get assassinated by a loony

He's not a hypocrite?   After the Parkland school shooting, this is what he said:

‘Take the guns first. Go through due process second, I like taking the guns early,’

Here's the full quote:

“Or, Mike, take the firearms first and then go to court, because that’s another system. Because a lot of times, by the time you go to court, it takes so long to go to court, to get the due process procedures. I like taking the guns early. Like in this crazy man’s case that just took place in Florida, he had a lot of firearms – they saw everything – to go to court would have taken a long time, so you could do exactly what you’re saying, but take the guns first, go through due process second.

When did Trump want to ban weapons? He might want some restrictions of the more extreme weapons but nowhere did I see he is using the school shooting as an excuse to fulfil political aims. I trust Trump and Trump's judgement totally.

You will have to ask the poster whom I replied to , as I dont know
