Traffic mayhem in Hanoi on Sunday after massive downpour

Many streets in Hanoi were flooded following a downpour that lasted hours, triggering traffic chaos across the capital Sunday afternoon reported VN Express.

Local police redirected traffic and warned oncoming vehicles after a fallen tree blocked part of Nguyen Tuan Street.

Hundreds of Hanoi Sewerage Company employees were mobilized to stand guard at flooded points.

 

Pumping stations at Bay Mau, Dam Chuoi, Ho Me, Yen So, Dong Bong 1-2, and Co Nhue ran at full capacity.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Cau Giay District received nearly 170 mm of rain in two hours, followed by Tay Ho (150 mm) and Hoang Mai (120 mm). More than 100 mm of rainfall was recorded in the districts of Nam Tu Liem, Thanh Xuan, Ba Dinh and Thanh Tri.


The rain was caused by the impact of a low-pressure trough passing through northern Vietnam, which has been causing rain in the northern region for several days, meteorologists said.
