I know there is a dentist request every few weeks. As far as I can tell, the answers point people to one of the bigger outfits, where several dentists work for a company.

I am looking for a dentist - or two - who works independently but has all the necessary equipment.

Somewhere in central Chiang Mai, and towards Hang Dong, will be fine. If someone knows of such a dentist - especially with good experience with crowns - I will appreciate it if they can post it.

Payom Clinic on the East side of the Moat is a one man band, he speaks very good English.
However, I think he is limited to fairly minor treatments.

The above mentioned clinic is Payon and I highly recommend...

Yes, Dr. Jay is a one man operation, and has done crowns for me. The only thing he farmed out was a root canal though it was done in his office. I have been going to him for near 20 years now.

I think you will find that he is just what you are looking for...

Thanks. What are his prices like?

Some prices I read about for crowns approach US prices.

I have gone to him only for many years so, I don't have a comparison... I think a crown cost me 16,000 but it depends on the materials, a cleaning cost me 600... I don't really recall prices because I would not consider another dentist. But surely you can ask.

I would guess that he is moderately priced but from what I hear, I don't think there is that large a range and most are near the same. When it came to something like a crown, he is always good about telling me prices beforehand and laying out the choices I had.

He is also a good guy and he cares, and that matters to me too.

I have seen one other dentist walking around though rarely.. I would guess the others are specialists or associates that can be called in..

I can not recommend him at all. I went once. Nice guy, years of experience, but I had to get up and walk out with a hole in my tooth and go to another dentist the next day (I paid of course). He assured me at the initial appt. that he would be prepared for the procedure. On the day of the procedure and after about 4 injections, the pain from the drilling into my back molar was unbearable. He stopped and admitted that he only stocked one Thai brand of anesthetic and didn't even use it often as Thai people don't like paying extra for it. (My wife has never had anesthetic while replacing fillings!!). He said he should have ordered some others after our first appt. but didn't.

My now dentist of many years has a cart with numerous short, medium and long acting anesthetics and he mixes up different ones. I've never had any pain whatsoever with any work he has done (crowns, etc.)

Who is your dentist now?

Although I have half decided to try to locate the CMU dental clinic and give them a shot.

Dr. Krisada Sangsiraprapa, D.D.S.

I also can't recommend the CMU dental clinic (the one with the Professors which costs about the same as a private clinic - not the student clinic). I went there once and had a terrible experience. My wife also had a bad experience there.
