Interview comes as some Tory MPs launched a fightback against a slew of Conservative criticism against the party leader

Boris Johnson has said he was "very, very surprised" to receive a fine for attending a lockdown-breaking gathering in Downing Street.

The prime minister, talking to Mumsnet founder Justine Roberts, was questioned on issues from partygate and Northern Ireland to nappies and his favourite book to read to his children.

Asked by a teacher why he did not lose his job for breaking lockdown rules, Mr Johnson said: "I apologise very much for what happened."

No, he thought that the "parties" would be considered as an office meeting because it was a group of office workers  who gathered in their work office to have a few glasses of wine after work on a Friday and therefore he didnt think that it would contravene any rules or regulations

so an after hours gathering in a bar might have been interpreted as a friends only party.

Don't think so Boris... nice try.

That's already something. It's all a matter of perspective.

In Japan, the PM would commit suicide on public tv.
In Italy, he would be cheered on the streets.
In China, the judge would be sent to a rieducation camp.
In Iceland, people would be asking who paid for the wine.
In USA, ... you fill it in.

What a jack a s s this guy is. His only strategy is to cling onto power for as long as possible in order to set his afyer politics lifestyle up at tax payers expense. I guess resignation would lead to a reduction in post political perks, so he is incentivised to stay on in power.

An office meeting with a few drinks...and vomiting.

Boris Johnson's response to being fined for attending a party whilst under strict lockdown is an indication of his level of intelligence and regard for the laws of his country. Quite appalling really but then look at many other world leaders who have rather questionable conduct, USA, Russia, Canada, Australia, NZ, Thailand and so it goes on!!

Lots of similarities between Thailand and the UK politician wise. Lying and thinking the law does not apply to them. Then keeping their job. Shameless.

Unlike the Dutch PM Mark Rutte, who is squeaky clean? ????

meh, who cares, better than leftist in control

He made mistakes attending these work gatherings where drinks were served, no doubt. But after delivering Brexit, he has a lot of leeway with a lot of voters.

Also, when the alternative (Labour) can't even define what a woman is (Starmer), call the opposition "Scum" (Rayner), threaten people with Acid attacks (Webbe) and contain comedy figures like Dianne Abbott, he could probably dance naked at Creamfields with a Covid mask as a loincloth and still get re-elected.

Time for the opposition to up their game. If you can't beat Johnson after all of this carry on, you don't deserve to be in power.

Yes, the mistake of getting caught.

Brexit has not been delivered.

Not saying he is but if something like this would happen in the Netherlands he would have stepped down. This is far too extreme. Things like this are really not accepted in the Netherlands partying with double standards.

And there it is a guy who is so anti the junta in Thailand (with good reason) does not mind his own PM behaving similar because he delivered Brexit. Kinda like how the government here only goes after their enemies. Seems you dont mind because you like him.

Similar?

Stealing power from a democratically elected government via an illegal military coup is not really the same as having drinks at the end of a working day during Lockdown ????

Extreme? It was a few drinks in the office.

Against the rules? Sure. But hardly "extreme".
