Si Khio police and Huk 31 rescue attended the scene of an accident on the Mitraphap (Friendship) Highway in Ban Lert Sawat, Lat Bua Khao heading towards Nakhon Ratchasima yesterday.

They found a Toyota Vigo pick-up in an irrigation channel on its side. One person was dead and four were trapped inside the vehicle and four had been thrown out. All eight were injured.

The driver of the pick-up was seventeen year old Pheeraphat Leuanklang who said that he was taking friends and family home top Korat after a day out at Khao Yaim reported Naew Na.

He said that he experienced a microsleep (lap nai in Thai) and recovered his senses as he crossed the central divider and overturned on the other side of the highway.

He said he was shocked that such a thing could happen.

Drowsiness is blamed for a lot of accidents in Thailand, notes ASEAN NOW, especially in recent years. Many signs are in place on straight stretches warning drivers to pull over if they feel sleepy.

17 years old, microsleep, no drivers experience and no experience with a car..... Surprised accidents happen??? And a driverslicense after 5 hrs sleep class will not help to solve the accidents too

Happens quite often now , overtaken brake failure as excuse for accidents.

You have to be 18 to get a car driving license.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driving_licence_in_Thailand#:~:text=Driving licence in Thailand is,drive a motorcycle is 15.

"The minimum age to drive a motor vehicle is 18, and to drive a motorcycle is 15"

So why are there so many schoolkids driving motorcycles. If they are in uniform does it make a difference?

Mentioned this the other day (I think?). Sat near Sukhumvit watching cars at the lights......okay almost all static, but could not believe the number of drivers who immediately had their phones out.....many missing the traffic moving forward as the lights changed. I have no doubt they also use them as they drive.

One taxi driver was watching a film on an iPad Pro strapped to his dash.....I kid you not.

I guess it is a problem when everyone else in the vehicle was also napping, as a of of people do

all over the world. It is too bad that someone else in the vehicle did not stay awake to talk with

this driver.

Not worth mentioning.

Having a license does not indicate quality of driving.  Being a 17 year old Thai I am sure he has had many many years of driving experience lol.

I know this has been said thousands of times but surely having no licence should be much more serious than maybe 200/500 baht fine.

A Thai license is about as useful as a chocolate teapot anyway.

Far too easy to obtain without having any proper knowledge or experience of how to operate a motor vehicle.
