Indian tourist’s gold necklace worth 100,000 baht allegedly stolen by two transgender individuals in Pattaya

Pattaya — An Indian tourist claimed that his gold necklace worth over 100,000 baht was stolen allegedly by what he described as two transgender individuals. This marked the eighth recent similar incident in the Pattaya areas. 

 

An investigation inspector Pol. Lt. Col. Nattawat Ploenchit received a theft report early this morning at 1:30 AM, June 22nd. The foreign complainant claimed his gold necklace worth 100,000 baht was stolen while he was out for an evening of relaxation in front of a hotel on Pattaya Second Road in the Nong Prue subdistrict of Banglamung, Chonburi. 

 

The Indian victim, Mr. Nareshkumar Labhshankar Pandya, 47, was waiting for Pattaya Police at the incident scene in panic, according to reports.

The gold price in Thai baht terms has shot up over the last month or two. I also thought they had caught the culprits recently.

I hope he has the receipt and CCRV to get his insurance to pay up. I’m sure these insurance companies will have, or should have clauses about late night stupidity.

Well the smart thing to do would to make sure ( the guy you pay to rob you)  you get robbed under a working CCTV camera.....And be sure you have fellow friend witnesses, who will also get a cut of the action...

I think the more relevant question is; How many tour operators in India are selling packages with travel insurance under the "free holiday in Thailand" scheme?

I do wonder why these Indians pack their luggage for a visit to another 3rd world country and decide it's a good idea to bring along some jewelry. I'd personally leave my $3000 dollar necklace at home.

It's a bit like leaving your belongings in pawn when you don't need them.... they are safer there than at home.

Well we don't know if they do or not do we ?  This Indian scam is relatively a new one so by the time these tricksters get back to India , file a claim only then does the insurance company do something. Now most insurance do not work that quick and make instant payments so perhaps as only these scams have happened in the last 6 - 8 weeks perhaps they either have not yet paid out, or else will not pay out.

Doubt the scammers will go public and admit that they didn't get a payout so hence until that is widely known,  more and more of these tricksters will continue to make such claims.

Somehow I would be surprised if insurances pay for this - but maybe I am wrong.

Yes, it might be useful to chat with a few Indian tourists and get a feel for this. As I posted before, pre-Covid there were also a lot of reported LB thefts of gold chains from Indian  tourists. Video evidence also showed many of the reports were false then.
