Naew Na Thai Caption: Foreign media report! Thailand needs 100,000s of  foreign workers

Naew Na reported that Bloomberg said that "Thailand is short of 500,000 workers after (the) government lifted most Covid bans".

Bloomberg said this particularly referred to the construction and fisheries sectors.

Thais are unwilling to work for low salaries in unpleasant jobs.

Poj Aramwattananont, deputy chief of the Thai chamber of commerce, called it a serious problem because getting the economy moving again meant many foreigners were needed to keep construction projects afloat.

He said it was also problematic because economies like China and Japan also needed large numbers of foreign laborers, creating competition for them.

Piroj Chotikasatien of the Department of Employment said that at the moment there are 250,000 foreign laborers in Thailand.

Many are working illegally and there has been an amnesty announced so they can work legally with extensions of permission to stay to 2025.

About 500 workers are trying to enter Thailand to work every day and 2,000 per day will be the norm soon.

Bloomberg has always run hot on Thailand--rating it pre pandemic as one of the top investment places in the world, I see in their latest magazine they are raving about the new Thai smart City they will be building -out side of BKK  (which I haven't seen ASEAN  mention )--But the fisheries  industry, I wouldn't blame anyone for not wanting to work that--- like being in servitude.

Be fair, many I see actually 'working' spend more time on the phone than 'working' , they could be being overpaid !

And many of the thousands will be Burmese who haven't been vaccinated against covid, so you can blame the government for any surge in cases as a result.

These could be instantly available if all mega-stores like Macro/HomePro/all Tesebans & the like sacked 60% of its redundant work force.

So increase the pay and improve the working conditions.

It's not as if the building sites or the fish are going to up sticks and move elsewhere!

Bloomberg complaining that their clients cannot get enough low paid (virtually slave) labour, well my heart pumps purple pee!
