webfact Posted August 16, 2022 Author Posted August 16, 2022 Dutchman seen spearfishing at Phi Phi islands in custody for illegal hunting Photo from อุทยานแห่งชาติหาดนพรัตน์ธารา-หมู่เกาะพีพี A Dutch tourist, who was recently seen on TikTok with some parrot fish, which he allegedly caught in Thailand’s southern marine park on Phi Phi islands, has been held in custody by police and officials of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation on five charges, including illegal fishing in a national park. Park officials said that the tourist, Roslan B., who recently admitted to being a professional spearfisherman, may face imprisonment of up to five years and/or a maximum fine of 500,000 baht if convicted. The owner of the boat, who rented it to the tourist, and the skipper are facing similar charges. Good, IF the Boat Captain and the Tourist fishing are held under the same charges and end up with eh same penalty (fines) then I have no issue with this story. A tourist was silly enough to fish in a national park, ignorance of the law is not a defence, but in this case I think it's a mitigating circumstance, the boat captain ‘should’ have informed him. So.. Will the boat captain and the tourist face the same penalty in the end ?... Edited August 16, 2022 by richard_smith237 3

Popular Post rwill Posted August 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 16, 2022 If you hire someone to take you fishing and they take you to an illegal spot it should be their responsibility, not yours. Unless you knew it was illegal and asked them to take you there anyway. 6 2
Popular Post connda Posted August 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 16, 2022 But the Thai charter boat Captain who took him there??? You know, the charter boat Captain who should know were fishing is legal and where it is not. Xenophobia at it's finest. Based on this report I'd suggest foreign tourist steer clear of charter fishing in Thailand. The charter boat Captain takes you out fishing and you get arrested. Think about that? ???? 3
Popular Post Purdey Posted August 16, 2022 Popular Post Posted August 16, 2022 How can they tell he was actually in the national park when the fish were caught? It doesn't matter where he was photographed, the onus should be on the police to have evidence he caught them inside the park and not a 100 metres outside the limit. Will the captain and crew simply affirm it so they get off? 3
