Does court ruling signal the end of PM Prayut’s time in power?

Now that the court has suspended Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha from duty after agreeing to rule on his eight-year term limit, an important question arises: What next?

 

The Constitutional Court’s nine judges voted unanimously on Wednesday (August 24) to accept a petition from 171 opposition MPs for judicial review of Prayut’s tenure as PM. The petition was filed with House Speaker Chuan Leekpai last week and forwarded to the court on Monday.

 

The judges also voted 5:4 to suspend Prayut from his PM duties with immediate effect until a final ruling is issued, as requested in the petition.

 

The suspension order, however, came as a surprise to many people since it followed rumors that Prayut would be allowed to stay in office while the court reviewed the case.

 

This is the first time Gen Prayut has been suspended from duty since he began serving as PM on August 24, 2014. At that time, he headed the junta formed following the May 2014 military coup that he led while serving as Army chief. This military putsch ousted the elected government of Yingluck Shinawatra.

 

As prime minister, Prayut has faced three previous Constitutional Court cases but won unanimous rulings in his favor each time.

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has graciously given a Royal Command for the appointment of General Prayut Chan-ocha as the 29th Prime Minister of Thailand, as countersigned by the President of the National Legislative Assembly Pornpetch Wichitcholachai. General Prayut received the Royal Command in a ceremony held on 25 August 2014 at the Army Headquarters in Bangkok.

 

Prayut has had his 8 years as a PM. Simple as it is.

I think they will have to carry Prayut out from his premiership in a coffin or garbage truck. His hands are glued fast to his emergency decree premiership. I wonder how many months this fellow has governed without Section 44 or emergency decree.

Would be nice a change of PM just before a General Election, democracy might be the end result, with yet another New Constitution, change that winning seats (what 250 ? seats) before the the first vote is cast.

He won’t be going anywhere if the army wants him to stay otherwise it’s likely another General or one of his current goons will be stepping in to replace him. 
Pretty sure the next occupant of the office of PM won’t be the result of a free and fair election.

Irrespective of the immediate outcome, at the end of the day following any removal, elections, coup or whatever comes to pass it will be same same - so just carry-on as normal ......

He was the army chief when he lead the coup. Just which army unit will follow his order now. He is a retired ex army officer when he became a politician.

Actually this is the official dress uniform for his new job.....as Chief Door Opener at the Oriental Hotel. He designed it himself.
