Well here we go again the river is on the up already so I will attempt to post daily images.

 

You can monitor for yourself at the Pakkret water level monitor site Pakkret Water Report (thaiclouderp.com) it seems not to work with Chrome now.

 

So a couple of photos from our back garden, the village is already a bit "moist".

There is a very recent Chrome upgrade (Version 105.0.5195.54 ) that seems to have fixed most of the recent compatibility problems.

Can't see the authorities fixing this annual problem any time soon , especially with climate change getting worse.

 

Time to move to higher ground before property prices ' take a dip '.

Not really, the water isn't stationary it's a khlong that flows into the river so Mr Mozzie can't get a foothold.

Yeah, applied the latest updates, the site opens but the video won't play. It was ok last year but won't work on any of my Chrome PCs, works fine on Edge.

 

Should look like this if you click the Play icon. I get worried when it gets to the top of that concrete beam.

I didn't take a photo when I crossed the river on a ferry at Wanglang yesterday, but the water level was certainly high enough for localised flooding of the ferry stop and riverbanks, if it hadn't been for the considerable improvements in flood defences in Old Bangkok in the last 6 or 7 years.

 

The water in the fields up North is apparently only a quarter the levels of 2011, so I'm not worried... yet.

My usual "Green House" reference has a lot of water hyacinth blocking the view of the water level, so I'll switch to the "Pink House" level reference, it also has conveniently calibrated level markers (ok the concrete retaining planks).

 

 

Level is currently 115cm below my "worry quite a lot" level (at which point water would be lapping around our ground floor entrance).

 

Let's hope it stays that way ????

Yeah, that place was built about 5 years ago, after the mega-flood and (importantly) after the post-flood road scheme that raised the road level by a good 50cm.

 

We were half-way through our build when the flood happened and it was too late to adjust our downstairs floor level, we had about 30cm of water downstairs. No damage of course as we were still in-build. We are a Thai-style "bungalow on sticks" although we have kitchen/dining and my workshop downstairs we are reasonably flood resistant.

Whoa ... bust out the hip waders.  Them pics are scary.  Been lucky, and had/built on high ground.

 

Cruised by surf (Gulf) yesterday and it was 'full up', so if the rain shows up this week, Krung Thep is in for some flooding.

112cm below "Worry" level, currently reasonably stable. We shall see what happens when the latest deluge arrives from the north.

Meanwhile, on our side of the same river, in the same area we are now 140cm below "worry" level.

 

Yes, many of the village houses are using boats but the occupants just get on with life.

 

What's coming from the north ...

 

EDIT Madam has suggested that some jealous (flooded) people "might" have opened some floodgates! This happened last time too.

At 18.20 tonight (full moon) the ChaoPraya is pretty high on the riverfront at SamutPrakan city hall, tide tables say about 3.6M. The level seems about the same as the November 2011 floods in that the footpath nearest the river is just underwater. As the river level is a good 1~1.5M above the car park it's interesting to see the concrete structure leaking a bit!

Wanglang ferry stop on the West side of the river in Old Bangkok is slightly flooded, but the new ferry stop is high enough and well enough defended to resist a full flooding. The flooding remains localised to the river's edge as it typical of biannual flooding in Bangkok. 

 

 

On the East Side, there is also slight localised flooding but the defences now are much improved.

 

There'll need to be at least 3-5 more inches for it to become severe.

Well the river level doesn't really seem to be doing much, 110cm below my reference "worry" level.

 

It's high and plenty of areas are flooded but it's not really moving much, at least not yet.

After the deluge last night here (Taling Chan) the storm water drains could not handle it.  There was water all over the road, the gateway to the village was flooded.  Crossy is not that far from us so no doubt he was affected too.

We actually had no rain at all yesterday. These downpours can be very localised, I've driven through 2 feet of water in Rangsit and arrived home 15 minutes later to bright sunshine and Madam watering the plants coz it hadn't rained.

 

Localised flooding from rain isn't an issue for us, it all flows into a ruddy great river. Unfortunately everyone upstream also has their rain go into the river.

 

Local level is certainly up a bit today, 101cm below "Worry" and off the green at Pak Kret.

There's a bunch on the way from up-north of course.

I noticed that the klong beside the house was unusually high, possibly due to high tide.  Will try to take some photos today.
