SETV - onward flight after 60 days?

Featured Replies

A friend is coming to Thailand on a tourist visa, and plans to extend after 60 days by another 30.

If he gets asked for onward flight, can that be after the 60 and before the 90 day mark? Or must be within 60?

I explained to him that he could probably buy a cheap flight ticket to 'burn' if needs be

If he gets asked at check in, It has to be an onward flight anywhere within the 60 days - Just google onward flights for a cheap throw away ticket.

A return or onward ticket is not required if a person has a valid visa it is only needed for a visa exempt or for a visa on arrival.

There is no requirement for an onward flight ticket either at check in or on entry into Thailand. However, it might well be needed to apply for the tourist visa. The rules on that vary from embassy to embassy.

a friend in the uk got approved a 60 day visa with departing flight 90 days after arrival, if it's fine with thai ministry of foreign affairs then assume this will be fine the airline

If you have a visa, there is no reason why the airline should care whether you have an onward/return flight booked. It is only if you are traveling without a visa (or re-entry permit) planning to rely on a visa exemption, that the airline will more often than not want to see on onward flight booking.

So if a person travels on the new 45 day Visa Exempt starting October 1, they should have an onward flight ticket within those 45 days in case the airlines ask?

I think I would get one within 30 days since the airline might not be aware of the 45 day entries change.
