Hi there. We are an European couple (France+ Italy) and we are digital nomads. We want to travel through South East Asia for at least 8 months, and we wanted to spend 4 or 5 months in Thailand.

We know we don't need a Visa for entering the country and now we have a window of 45 days. We have multiple questions though:

1) do we need to exit the country to get the next 30 days prolongation visa?

2) after the 75 days, are we forced to leave or there is a possibility to renew our visa in the "immigration bureau"?

3) Is it worthy to make a 6 months visa, or it is possible to spend more time in the country by some ways, exiting and entering multiple times without buying a visa?

I read a lot here and elsewhere, but the infos are always not as clear as i would.

Thanks a lot

1. You do not need to exit Thailand to obtain 30 day extension. Extension obtained at immigration office where you are staying when you apply.

2. You need to exit Thailand however that can just be a border bounce.

Reenter visa exempt for another 45 days.

That can also be extended by 30 days.

Note you can only do two visa exempt entries via land per calendar year.

3.dont waste effort on a METV. With the travel plans you outline there are better options.

Thanks a lot.

Last question. They told us that before taking the plane, they will ask us for a return ticket or a ticket leaving the country. Do we need a plane ticket (rent a ticket or similar) or a train ticket to Cambodia will do the trick also?

Thanks a lot

The airline at departure MAY ask to see onward flight.

You can Google "onward flight.com"

Another option is a throw away ticket.

Cheapest available approx 1500baht.

A Bus/train ticket will not cut it.

Must be flight.

No train to Cambodia, you can only get as far as the border town Aranyaprathet. Laos a much better option for that with the new Chinese high speed train to Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang from Vientiane just across the border from Nong Khai.

Is a digital nomad the modern day equivalent of what was once referred to as a backpacker? It seems like anyone who has a smart phone can call themselves a digital nomad. I never saw any study stream called "digital nomad" when I went to Uni but that was awhile ago, so maybe there is a digital nomad career now.

Agreed. Backpackers seem to be a dying breed. All digital nomads now.
