Now I get the point of your post. A wishing I was there, longing for a past thats not possible anymore. I dont know how long since you have been here but 20k baht a month, come on now that would last a maximum of 2 weeks, many people pay that in rent.

I could live in my house near CM for 25k/month (without the women and children).

Beyond 9kbht for the mortgage there's not much to spend money on.

Thailand is more fun. Forget big money. If you can live there on 50,000 baht a month thats way more fun than west. You can rent a hotel room for 7500 baht a month with cleaning. Eat 80 baht khao sois.

I paid 500 baht a night for a hotel room in Phuket. 30x 500 is 15,000 but monthly rate would have been 10,000 baht with room cleaning, free wifi and no power bills.

Plenty of monthly deals under 10,000 that are good.

You misunderstand me. I am not advocating living in a city, that too is a no no. I have a house 7 km from the town in a secure modern village complex. I am refering to a living in a Thai village in the middle of nowhere. Now thats a nightmare.

What town is it?
