Popular Post webfact Posted October 19, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 19, 2022 File photo By Online Reporter Thailand is hoping to capitalise on the rising cost of living in Europe and the US by urging tourists to leave home soil and escape the energy crisis in the west. Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Yuthasak Supasorn said Thailand is targeting so-called ‘revenge spending’ from tourists who are looking to swap a bleak winter at home, both in terms of the weather and rising costs, for Thailand’s tropical weather. Mr Yuthasak said that Thailand expects to see the tourists spend an average of 30 percent more per trip next year. Data from the TAT has shown that tourists in Thailand are already spending more now per trip than they were before the pandemic. Popular Post brommers Posted October 19, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 19, 2022 Another opportunistic and tasteless exploit by TAT. Exploiting people who are financially threatened and worried sick thanks to the antics of the Truss government is beneath contempt. 4 5 3 5
Popular Post Mickeymaus Posted October 19, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 19, 2022 "Mr Yuthasak said that Thailand expects to see the tourists spend an average of 30 percent more per trip next year." I am confused... They should come here to save money and then spend 30 percent more here. But on the other hand if I look at some price increases here this could be necessary. Many things that I need got much more expensive even without any inflation ???????????? in Thailand. 9 2 3

Though of course the recent vote was not indicative of Thailand; merely a few old suits talking shop and looking after their own end! 2 1

Darn, is that a prediction of Inflation for next year ? Pretty good in my opinion; my duck eggs have gone from 50 baht for ten to 65 baht for ten. There is some maths that say that 50 to 65 is right about 30%. 3 2 1
Popular Post Millcx Posted October 19, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 19, 2022 Shows ya how much TAT is out of date .. You don’t get free heat or electric 55555555555555555 3
Popular Post Nicholas Paul KNIGHT Posted October 19, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 19, 2022 TATs comments are in fact truthful, why pay to heat when the sun does it ....HOWEVER what the illogical minds in TAT forget that in winter, many EUROPEAN houses need to maintain warmth to keep the home warm , dry and prevent damage from not being heated. That cost is REQUIRED so after your warm holiday you actually have a HOME to go back to !!!!!!! Nice idea illogically thought out as one expects from TAT 11 3 1
Popular Post verticalift Posted October 19, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 19, 2022 There is no escape….. The Provincial Electrical Authority (PEA) here in T’land, just raised electrical rates +17% on 01 September 2022….. 2 1 2

Better provide an EASY tourist visa good for a 6 month stay . That will certainly help to attract the old and rich folks to spend the winter month ( and their money ) here . 7 4 1

Popular Post Bim Smith Posted October 19, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 19, 2022 Then make tourists visas easy to apply for like they used to be. I remember getting a 6 months tourist visa at the Liverpool consulate. Simple form 75 pounds and in and out in 10 minutes. Went back 6 months later and got another. 4 1

Pack up a house and still pay your taxes on an empty house to buy a flight and rent a short term villa for 40k a month and their pension on food just to help Thailands economy. Holiday packages for the elderly in Spain are inexpensive in the cold months. British pensioners have been doing it for years. 5 3

It goes 20% or more. Maths does not rate at school. 40 baht noodles becomes 50 baht....simples. 2
Popular Post swm59nj Posted October 20, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 20, 2022 Long term holidays? Most tourists come to Thailand for short term holidays. Because they can’t afford much else. 1 2

Probably bull, but could actually be true - The average tourist may well now not be able to come due to recessions, oil costs, etc. This will leave only the super rich, who may well spend 30% more. I do not think thailand will get more money. 1
jacko45k Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 With inflation in the UK at 10%, a good proportion of that being energy/ fertilizer inflation feeding through to food and drinks costs, becoming a snowbird or even an Expat is attractive.... If flight costs permit it! (Better move quick before the oil protesters stop people flying anywhere!). Most Expats will admit that cost of living is a serious factor for being here.... I am one of them. 2

Some of the bills one gets back in he West are also rather a rip-off. Plenty of alternatives around Thailand....I suspect it will not last though. 1

Popular Post Caldera Posted October 20, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 20, 2022 Do they really hope to attract the kind of tourist who would struggle to keep their home heated back home? Looks like desperation to me. Apparently they cannot attract the well-heeled segment in the numbers they dreamed up. 2 3

Yes, being a citizen of a responsible and free democratic nation can be a drag and sometime requires patriotic sacrifices. Take a break and vacation where sustainability of democracy is not a personal concern.

Not struggle, simply those who would also live meagre lives by turning on that heating. I think there is likely a sector of people who have sufficient funds to live here... and immediately be living a better standard of living. I compare Pattaya to Blackpool or Rhyl, no contest. 2
