Gen Prawit calls for proactive measures to curb road accidents

No sh*t, Sherlock! The easiest proactive measure to curb road accidents would be to give the lazy RTP a swift kick in the butt and tell them to go and do their frigging job! Another easy one would be to have people take driving lessons and pass a driving test before they get a license.

I have learned to be somewhat proactive. As a foreigner that has lived here on and off for years. I hide out during all Thai holidays. Unless an emergency my old jalopy doesn't even get cranked until the carnage is over..

Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan instructed state agencies to adopt a proactive approach to promote road safety and reduce accidents.

Toad of toad hall has spoken.. shows how much he understands Thai road mentality.

Smash the Thai people as hard as you can in the pocket.

It's the only thing that every citizen understands and will act on.

Money Number 1.

1st offence huge fine, loss of vehicle, suspended jail term.

2nd offence double fine, jail time 5 year ban loss of vehicle

3rd offence 5 year jail life time ban.

Thailand will never decrease road accidents as long as their only enforcement happens at road blocks or after an accident has already occurred.

Thailand has NO proactive enforcement.  That would require cops in patrol cars pulling people over for moving violations.  And my educated guess?  That ain't never happening.  I personally think they want chaos on the roads.  If they had cops issuing citations for moving violations then the wrong (rich and wealthy) folks may be inconvenienced.  You know, like weaving in and out of traffic and driving on the shoulders at 150 kpm while taking selfies.

Old hobbits die hard. It will take many years before the Thai's drive following the rules of the road. Don't forget who is teaching their kids how to drive. Plus with weed being so plentiful, new ways of driving my start. God help us.

This jaw-droppingly inane comment is typical of the Thai authorities approach to road safety - that of total ignorance - just simply turning their back on the accepted science.

Piece-meal legislation on single issues and and intermittent dictums without any specific plan are just allowing the situation in Thailand to continue.

It IS solvable - the longer they ignore this, the longer it will take to solve the situation.

You have to install these measures - if you don't o them ALL then you won't make significant progress.

  • Enforcement - Reform the police and courts
  • Education - this goes much further than driving tests
  • Engineering - the design and state of both roads and vehicles is a major factor in road safety
  • Emergency Services - thousands of people die because despite surviving a crash they are let down by first responders and A&E in hospitals
  • Evaluation - Thailand lags behind the rest of the world appallingly in the gathering and analysis of statistics and scene of accident calibration - this is vital to address why and how crashes occur.

It will never work, you would need the RTP to assist

Yep. And every Thai knows the RTP can’t be bothered with low-yield activities like traffic enforcement.

This guy is truly a blot on the face of this nation. Every time he opens his mouth, nonsense just pours out of it.

Note to the general. You want to make the roads safer? Get the highway patrol to actually patrol the highways, and start pulling people over for driving a truck at 40kph in the fast lane, excessive speeding (150kph, or higher), reckless driving, etc.

They do that in most other nations. Why not here? Never seen it happen. Ever.

As usual, you are spouting stuff you have no intent to honor, or back up. You are an empty suit.

Both, but hi-so will get a few days start to jump on the family jet and fly to Singapore, never to return until the statute of limitations expires.

I think you are confusing the over used term hi-so, with super rich. Very few so called hi-so here could afford a private jet. There are alot of rich people here, but even someone with a net worth of two billion baht can barely afford the purchase and upkeep of a private jet. They could afford to charter one from time to time. Perhaps even fractional ownership of one.

There are only 15 families here with 2 billion US, or more. Another 17 with between one and two billion. They are the super rich. There are another estimated 82,000 people with a net worth estimated to be over a million. Not alot. That is compared to 22 million people in the US.

The Global Wealth Report from Credit Suisse says there were 21,951,000 millionaires in the U.S. at the end of 2020.

"Thai road mentality." - totally the wrong approach. This why progress isn't made in Thailand.
