A total of 159 guns, mostly handguns, have been stolen from Pak Kret police station’s storage over the past five years, allegedly by non-commissioned police officer Chaowalit Pumkajorn, according to Pol Maj-Gen Pananchai Chuenjaitham, deputy commissioner of First Region Provincial Police Bureau.

He said that it was initially believed that 160 guns had been stolen, but one of them, an M-4 assault rifle, had not disappeared but had actually been distributed to a police officer for use.

The stolen weapons include 134 handguns, mostly Glock and Sig Sauer semi-automatic pistols, and 25 M-16 and M-4 assault rifles.

A non-commissioned police officer, attached to Pak Kret district police in Nonthaburi Province, is in custody on theft charges for allegedly selling or pawning more than 100 handguns, which he had allegedly stolen from the district police’s store room over the past five years.

The officer, Chaowalit Pumkajorn, was arrested in the north-eastern province of Nong Khai yesterday (Thursday), as he tried to flee to into Laos, after an investigation implicated him in the disappearance of the weapons form Pak Kret police station’s arms storage facility.

He has been flown into Bangkok and was questioned by Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn, deputy national police chief.

Agreed, unless this guy was the fire arms master , checking in and out guns, then the whole deportment needs sacking, right up to the head of the stations

Sounds like the whole station involved. Five years and nobody notice missing guns! Police here are a absolute joke.

Clearly a lack of counting skills in the BiB until it comes to the contents of envelopes.

Surely there is at least an annual audit of an armoury, I mean 1 going missing might be missed but a <deleted> hundred, unbelievable but TiT

The school director got 365 years halved for confessing stealing childrens food , this policeman should get 10 years for every gun and more if used to kill someone , confiscate all families money aswell

The level of not only total incompetance, but rampant inefficiency regarding weapons security is unbelievable.  There should be clear and strict rules issued from the RTP HQ on the control of firearms.  If they don't have them already, then the senior General is to blame and should be brought to account as to why there are no rules.

No wonder there is a lot of meth for sale. If their evidence storage is so lousy, I really wonder what "powder" is going up in flame, when they have their official drug burning.
