Dishonest taxi driver - gets a friend to pretend money is hers after Good Samaritan finds it in cab

77kaoded reported that a member of the public found about 70,000 baht in a cab.

He filmed evidence of his find and posted on Facebook as he handed over the cash to the taxi driver.

It was hoped that this would be another way to trace the owner of the money.

Instead of ensuring that the money was returned to its rightful owner the cabby arranged for a female friend to pretend she was the owner.

Monchai, 43 went to the Muang Samut Prakan police.

He said that on Sunday around noon he ordered a cab on a mobile app for a journey from his home to Sri Nakharin.

He found a zip purse. It contained about 70,000 baht. The driver said it must belong to the previous passenger.

The driver said he knew the identity of the passenger through the Grab app.

He felt that the driver would get a reward for handing in the money.

He checked with the Grab call center and found out the name of the female passenger.

She said she'd be going in the evening to pick it up.

This was at odds with what the taxi driver told him.

Monchai wanted the money to be handed over at the police station. She said it was not convenient.

The taxi driver admitted he'd given the money to a friend.

While at the police station the taxi driver phoned to say the money was now at North Samrong police station. He said he'd be at the Muang police station shortly.

Monchai waited an hour until the taxi driver called to say he was on the Bhumibol Bridge.

He should have got the the police station in just half an hour.

The passenger denied he was just making content and wanted the money to get to its real owner.

Grab gives out your details to anyone that asks?

In the end its all comes to one's honesty, while many people in Thailand are honest, others. not so much..

There'll be news of 3 good, honest cabbies in the next few days!

It should amaze me that the Taxi thought he'd get away it, even though he was easily traceable, but I'm not, lived here too long. What a Plonker ! Well done to the guy who found it, and recording it, then to follow it up with the cops.

At last a dishonest honest taxi driver rumbled ????

Tough decision. Who would be more trustworthy with the cash? The taxi driver, or the cops? It is a toss up.
