Political activist Srisuwan Janya to sue Thai government over allowing foreign land ownership

For or against They can't really think more than 10 people will buy property.  What do the rules say about inheritance of this land?

Limiting the rain rich people can own in Thailand and USA would be a good thing.

It appears that the new rules target the wealthy rich market and individuals with no connection to or do not want connection to their Thai wives or husbands. Individuals married to Thais are and can buy land already.

If this is the market, then the fear will rightly be that rich and wealthy can skirt all laws and buy more than what the law allow through loopholes in laws, lack of enforcement or otherwise.. then in a very short time u will see Thailand being bought by all foreigners.

So the fear is justified.

Land resources are national properties which are limited and unable to be increased.

Singapore (and others) probably would disagree with such a weak-minded statement.

Just wondering , are you an established farang with wives/children who would like to buy some land in Thailand  perchance ?

No. I don't want to die here.

I don't disagree that the foreign land ownership laws need reform. On the other hand, completely opening the market will undoubtedly lead to  the kind of stratospheric property prices that you see in the west.  Rather than basing land ownership on investment amount, maybe the government should consider allowing it for farangs established in the kingdom -- with wives and children, for example.

What about those in established relationships without children both with Thai women and Thai men?

The first thing the Thai Elites do is to buy houses and land in countries such as Canada, Australia and UK, especially London.

It's a worldwide problem that forces locals out and prices them out of living in popular areas.

Look at Sihanoukville now, it's a Chinese enclave, the local Cambodians cannot afford to live there, but not allowing foreigners to buy here in Thailand or then imposing ridiculous archaic conditions.

He needn't worry, with the conditions imposed on land ownership and the amount that needs to be invested, there will be few takers except some ' corrupt Chinese mafias '

I think a lot of it is just headline grabbing by the government to try retain ' foreign interest ' in the country.
